Just posted in another topic on the new Platinum Credit Card.
According to the Credit Card comparison page there is now no Annual Fee for the Gold Credit Card. Previously £40 pa.
Anyone else willing to admit they have this lowly Amex card, and anyone heard anything from Amex about this?

Yes, I used to have a gold card - fee waived in the first year was the offer. So at the end of the first year I cancelled it, got put through to retention who then waived the fee.
Phone them straight away and tell them you are cancelling your card. Don't get into a discussion with the first rep you get though to, wait till they put you through to the card retention department - these are the guys who have the authority to waive fees and pull strings for you. See what they will offer you.
I had my card for a couple of years when I decided to cancel. As a sweetener they refunded the annual fee they had just charged me, refunded last years fee and offered to upgrade my card to Platinum. Credit to them - they still refunded the fees even though I cancelled the card anyway.
There are plenty of other stories here of people getting fees waived on other cards, including the Centurion.
Of course it depends on your circumstances but provided you pay your bills on time and spend more than about 2,000 per year, the annual fee for the Gold Credit Card is strictly optional. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
Oh yes, and while you are there ask them to upgrade you to the new Platinum Credit Card with 2% cashback!
