American Express Membership Rewards - AMEX and Skymile- Cancelled and Re-apply

Currently, I have an Delta AMEX card with the annual fee waived. When this card is about to expire, can I cancel it and re-apply? Will my fee will be waived then if AMEX has new no fee promotion? Will I get bonus miles for signing up the 2nd time?

The answer is clearly No if you apply for the same card type.

I put the new card in my wife's name and got a linked card off her account. Her DL miles have been idle for more than two years so it was time to act.

Note that Mrs. outoftown has a different last name from me, so I didn't think it would be a problem. I'm still waiting to see if she gets the 7000 bonus (Gold) bonus.

I reapplied about fifteen (15) months ago for AMEX SkyMiles card and DID NOT receive the 10K Delta miles. Received annual fee invoice in most recent billing statement. Just off the phone with customer service [800-430-1000] in an attempt to secure some sort of mileage based retention bonus. Got nothing except an offer to switch to no-fee card which provides one (1) mile for every two dollars ($2.00) spent. Declined offer and cancelled card.

Just got my annual fee statement and have a double-mile bonus yet to arrive. Any suggestions?
