Is there a way to transfer Amex MR points to the American Airlines frequent flyer program?

There's no way to transfer Membership Rewards points into American miles directly.

But you can convert Membership Rewards points into other currencies that can ultimately be converted into American miles:
Amex MR --> Hilton --> American MR --> Continental --> Hilton --> American MR --> Starwood --> American MR --> Continental --> Amtrak --> United --> Diners Club --> American
The last option looks like the best conversion ratio. Believe it or not, that way MR ultimately convert 1:2 into AA, with a 25k max/yr or 50k max/yr if you're an Amtrak elite.
