American Express Membership Rewards - Fairmont Southhampton Bermuda
Going to be staying at this property in mid-June. Used 55K AMEX points for one night in a Fairmont harbor view room, booked the other 2 nights in the same type through PTS for $382/nite with an 'upgrade if available on checkin' to an ocean view.
How is this place (An AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts property), and its treatment of AMEX Plat. guests?
I've sent an email to the hotel asking them to 'combine' the two separate reservations since AMEX MR doesn't seem to coordinate with PTS (was told by PTS - "we can't combine MR and $$ stays").
Anything in particular we should do on a 3 day weekend there?

You may want to post this under "Other hotels" as well, there are several Fairmont posts there. I'd also consider requesting a Fairmont upgrade coupon @ the coupon connection. All Gold & Plat members of their program get a bunch of them every year - regrettably mine have been used.

What to do, depends on what you are interested in. I would check out Horseshoe bay, in my opinion, one of the best beaches in the world and very close to the hotel. On hotel property is a fairly good par 3 golf course. There are some other good golf courses on the Island. The hotel is a fair distance from Hamilton, but I believe you can take a water taxi which will take you to the Hamilton Princess (The other Fairmont Property) right in town. The rooms have been refurbished in the past few years so they are pretty good. Let me know if you need any dinner recommendations.
Thank you very much for the info. Yes -dinner recommendations would be great. Wife is 3 months pregnant, so we will be keeping the whole trip mellow, although I'll probably duck out to do some SCUBA.

there's a nautical-themed restaurant in the hotel (I forget the name) that is excellent!

Congrats on the Baby! My wife is due in October.
The nautical themed restaurant in the hotel is called the Newport Room. There are also hotel affiliated restaurants called, The Waterlot, and The Whaler Inn. Both are close to the hotel and I believe there is a hotel courtesy minibus that will drop you off.
All of them are good, the Newport room is the most formal of the three.
My recommendation is for a place called Lido's located at the Elbow beach hotel. It overlooks the ocean and the second best beach in Bermuda. Ask for a window table and book before sunset. After dinner you might want to take a quick stroll on the beach.
Another Restaurant that is pretty good is La Coquille at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute. It has a nice view of Hamilton Harbor, and the food is top notch.
For consistant food quality the best restaurant in Bermuda is probably Fourways, If you get tired of ocean views (I do not) you could try it out.
If you are in to something a little less formal, and are in Hamilton, you could try the Pickled Onion, food and service are O.K..
Let me know if you need anything else.

If you are in Bermuda on June 14th Jose Carreras is performing in an outdoor concert.
