American Express Membership Rewards - Bonus miles for new sign ups who spent $5k by 1/31/03

Anyone else sign up for the Gold AmEX card last summer/Fall with this Promo? You got the same sign-up bonus iles but if you spent $5k by 1/31/03 you would receive 7,500 miles. AMEX claims it never existed. I am trying to dig up the mailing, but just wondered if anyone else saw this or enrolled in it.
