American Express Membership Rewards - Delta AMEX companion ticket ripoff

I tried to use my free AMEX companion ticket to book a flight from ATL to Las Vegas. The coach fare is currently $344. AMEX revised its ticket policy not to include L or U classes (cheap fares). Lo and behold I was offered a regular ticket for 688 dollars with a free companion ticket. I am considering switching my AMEX card to membership miles.
This credit card used to include Europe destinations and a minimum coarch fare of 325 .

Revised? I don't recall these classes ever being eligible, which is why most people (based on posts I've read) find the companion tickets worthless.
