I'm UK based and wondering how/whether I can do this. I have heard that an Amex Platinum Card can make the switch. Does anyone have experience of this, or any other ideas? Thanks

As stated in the BA forum (please dont crosspost, it makes it difficult for people to follow threads) you can do this by transferring first to Starwood, then from Starwood to BA. You loose 50% in the process, i.e. 2:1. You can do this with any of the standard UK charge cards, it doesnt have to be Platinum.

It should also be possible to transfer direct but only if you have platinum or centurion (never tried it myself)

Its not. But you're not alone in thinking that- AMEX has (intentionaly?) worded its Platinum/Centurion marketing to make you think that http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

Basically, they say that with these cards you can 'spend' or 'use' MR points on any airline. This does not mean transfer. What it means is that they will quote you in MR points for a ticket on any airline, but of course the amount they quote will be far, far higher than had you been able to convert the points directly into miles.

SPG is the only way to actually move MR points to a non-MR partner.
