American Express Membership Rewards - three letters, four phone calls, still no SPG transfer.

well, you know how this 1000:500 deal on SPG points is the brave, bright hope for those of us sitting on a heap of value-enhanced MR points?

well, good luck getting it to work. for some reason, changing my FF/FG info online is BANNED! on my account. it might be that i am 31337 hax0r or something (yehrite) or that there's some glitch.

i've now called AmEx, which claims things from SPG not being a partner to "Well, there's no way to add that to your account." ("Do you need to delete a partner account? Because i sure ain't using that DL account you folks signed me up for..." "No, miss, that's not it, you don't understand...")

i've mailed them. i've called them. i've been very explicit; take 40,000 MR points out of MR account (BLAH) and transfer them to SPG account (BLAH). i've gotten no response via mail, and no luck on the phone. i'm frustrated. i'm angry, i just want this darn transfer and then i think i'm canning my Gold Card like a buncha sardines and walking away from Amex for good...well, after i get all my points out. i've been trying the transfer since the 1000:500 scheme was announced.

what's wrong with MR? it's like someone let CO take over the place...one enhancement after another.

Not that this will make you happy, but I had no problems. I called MR and set up my SPG number on my MR account, then as soon as I hung up the phone I went online to see if it was set up...and it was!! So I transferred points immediately on-line and they were in my SPG account the next day!! I guess I might have been really lucky...

well, i seem to have fallen on better luck. i talked to a MR agent who was somewhere beyond helpful and willing to do what all those before couldn't. to boot, i got a 2500 point bonus for "the troubles you had" and the transfer was completed on the phone and in my SPG account tomorrow.

Janice at MR CS (i won't reveal her last name here) deserves a serious amount of credit for managing to fix much everything and give me a reasonable remuneration for my problems when i didn't even seem all that unhappy, just a little flustered.

all done, and my *wood account is up 20,000 points. yay!

hey, maybe they're not so bad after all. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Respecting Janice's privacy is a great reason.

as far as I know, they dont give you their real names in any case, unless they are in a management position.

They do not give their real names for security reasons. I know one customer service rep. who used the name of her husband's obscure band as her last name on the phone.

I've posted this before, but I guess I'll just keep posting it:

If you have a legit complaint w/AE and have gone through the proper channels, consider calling AE Corp HQ as a last resort.

US AE cardholders can call 800-297-6197 M-F, 9AM - 5PM. There is a staff of folks whose primary responsibility is deal with complaints. Make sure your complaint is properly documented (who, what, where, when, why, how, etc) BEFORE you call. When speaking with these folks, be calm and polite. Yelling or swearing will get you NO WHERE.

One final note: If you get above and beyond service from someone (from AE or anyone in the service industry), consider taking a moment to write a note. These companies want to hear from you - GOOD OR BAD.
