1. Does the Hyatt Diamond check-in upgrade program work just like the Starwood one, where you get the best available room, even the Presidential suite?

2. Is the Hilton Gold VIP the same as Hilton Gold, which I already had via some other affinity program, which doesn't provide much benefit, or does the addition of "VIP" provide top tier benefits like Starwood Platinum?

3. The benefits with Avis Presidents Club are clear (this is 2 levels above Preferred)...is the Hertz program comparable, or is this level just basic Gold?

1. Ask the folks in the Hyatt forum.

2. Hilton Gold is Hilton Gold. All Hilton elites are technically VIPs.

3. Hertz is basic gold.

So, the Hitlon and Hertz benefits are not really benefits, in that these levels are easily obtainable.

With the Hertz membership you get through the AMEX Platinum Card (and I am assuming Centurion gets at least as much), you get a notation added to your profile to upgrade one car class, so it's pretty much like Hertz 5* then (since the one car class upgrade is about the only benefit).

I received the upgrade about as often before I was 5* because of this (I assume) as I do now as a 5* (with the notation still in my profile too of course).
