American Express Membership Rewards - AMEX Best Value Guarantee

I recently reactivated my Optima Platinum card and I got an insert with the benefits and BVG is still there. It looks like it was not eliminated from this card after it was removed from Blue. I called BVG to confirm and they said that it is still a benefit of the Optima Platinum card.

Even better is the Buyer's Assurance program. I had a product break after the warranty expired and within a week Amex sent a check for the purchase price.

Unlike the Purchase Protection plan - which is only excess coverage - Buyer's Assurance doesn't require you to tap your own insurance first.

I am curious about the Best Value Guarantee. Does it apply only to goods? Or could it be used for hotel rooms, tickets, etc.?

Does anyone have experience with this? What kinds of hassles etc it is to be paid? In particular, how do you prove it if the prices are on a web site? I'd like to buy a new computer from a local dealer (for the ease of purchase, support, and knowing what I'm getting) but know that I can get cheaper from online (but prob not by $250). Many of the stores online, though, don't have ads.

Quick phone call followed by FAXing or mailing in the documentation. Check arrives within 1-2 weeks. For one online purchase I submitted a printout of the webpage with the item description and current price in lieu of a printed advertisement.

I had the same smooth experience. Despite many threads about poor service, Amex has done an outstanding job getting refunds out fast.
