In Switzerland, you get luggage tags if you are Gold, Platimium or Centurion.
You should also get them in the US.

I got a Platinum card here in the US about 5 months ago, and my welcome pack did not include luggage tags.

As I remember, years ago I got luggage tags as a Platinum. However, I paid extra for them. It seems that Amex has a far lower regard for their U.S. members.

In '95, you got one black leather luggage tag with the Centurion on it. It looks very nice http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

The current prevailing wisdom says that US card holders (cards of any color) do not receive luggage tags. This is based upon discussion results from the past here.

I've been Platinum in Canada for 4 or 5 years now, and have never even heard of Platinum luggage tags... so the snub seems to cover all of North America! ;-)

I called Centurion Card Services here in the U.S. and asked for Centurion tags...and they sent me Platinum tags! They're sturdy black leather with an insert that says "The Platinum Card." This was a couple months ago. I might be willing to part with one or two.

We've had the Platinum Card for quite a while and they used to send the luggage tags automatically with new cards and would send extras/replacements on request.

I quit using them as I thought they were making my bags a 'target' for theft.

I just called the Platinum Desk and was advised that they ran out of luggage tags one month ago and would not reordered until January. It's sad that Platinum card holders have to call for luggage tags instead of being sent to them. It's even more sad that they ran out - who are they giving them to if not Platinum card holders???

No offense...

What is the purpose of having "Platinum Card" tags dangling from your luggage?

Do you need to "advertise" to the world that you have a platinum/centurion card?

Very well recognized Chris.
As I posted to same topic in the Centurion section: It´s just a vulgar scream for attention. Very, very low class!!

While I may agree with the comment that the Platinum luggage tags may attract a theft more than untagged bags, why do people feel it necessary to ridicule somebody who would like the tags?

How is it different than what you drive, how you dress, the color you paint your house? Everybody is different and have different likes and dislikes. So.....why does one feel it is necessary to putdown somebody who likes the tags? Or are these just people who feel best criticizing others?

Why do people gag for some plastic tags and not use them because their luggage might be stolen or to show anybody "look I´able to spend 395 bucks for a credit card"??

Well its great to see that the same people are here offering no value whatsoever to the discussions.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, I have my Black Centurion tags and there is one on my suitcase and one on my rucksack. Do I care what some disgruntled ex-Centurion member thinks. Not in the slightest.

Someone famously quoted; 'you can't buy class' and they were right. I am not buying class, I am buying a product and a service and on the whole I am happy with what I get for my money. Centurion and Platinum are not for everyone, AmEx will be the first to tell you this, the UK website states its not for everyone.

We have discussed during my era on this forum, and you guys more recently about the general public knowing what Centurion is. Very few know what it is and the tags are small that you would have to be looking specifically to see it on a black case. I have them on my luggage because I know that the odd's of someone else having them too are quite remote. A lot of cases lookalike.

On the whole theft thing, are you people going to start criticising people with Louis Vuitton luggage next, or people with very expensive Samsonite luggage, or are you just picking on people with AmEx tags? We all know what the answer is here. I can sort of understand the risk of theft, but take my above comments, two bags come off the conveyor, exactly the same except one has a Platinum tag on and the other has a Centurion tag on it, I think the Platinum bag would be the first to go. The general public are a lot more aware of Platinum over Centurion.

For those of you that don't like AmEx, Centurion or Platinum, don't waste your energy posting the same rubbish here at every oppurtunity. This is a forum for people to ask questions and learn. Certain 'flame' members here have yet to post a useful bit of information in relation to AmEx. I used to post here a lot but stopped posting a while ago, one reason being these members posting absolute nonsense.

So not to post a soap-dish message here, I will try and answer the original question. In the UK there are two types of Luggage tags, there are the samll plastic tags that I have described before, you get two with the travel pack that is sent to you after you activate the basic card on your Centurion account, you can phone up and ask for more tags/travel packs (I keep one in the office and carry another in my work bag), there are also the thin cardboard versions that you get when you make a travel booking, these are like a 'business class' tag you get when you fly. They are foldover Black card, that has the centurion logo on the front and the text 'The Centurion Card from American Express'. Inside you can write your name (which shows through a cutout in the front) and also your address. You can also phone AmEx UK up for these if you want them.

And finally just to clear something up here there are approx 12000 UK Centurion accounts, 5000 German Centurion accounts, 2500 Hong Kong accounts and 2000 Swiss accounts. Not the stupid figures of 25,000 plus quoted in Germany alone.

Thanks,
Richard

I will go back into lurk mode now.

There are AT LEAST 25,000 in Germany (got the info from german Amex staff).
By the way, I do like Louis Vuitton luggage (when it comes in black leather).

I think that the discussion about the class / lack of class of luggage tags doesn't make sense on FT.

That's not the kind of information people expect from these boards.

The boards are intended to obtain and give information about products and services, not to criticize people using or not using these products.

The lack of class could be to forget the respect to all other FT members.

I agree with you, but that also means that people should have the right to give informations that are rather unpopular (like the total numbers of Cent.cardholders in Germany or other foolish things by Amex) to show others that a big company is still telling lies.

A discussion should also include the right to critizise (like a boy from Swindon used to say: "I like to add some spin")or spread uncommon opinions of a few others, even if it means that it might scratch on an illusion or bust a bubble some people seem to live in.

I thought the original question was about luggage tags for the platinum card (most probably in the US). http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

When I received my Platinum Card in Thailand, I got two luggage tags that look like miniatures of the Platinum Card with black leather straps. You can put your identifying details inside and your name peeks out on a small slot in the back. I put one on my black leather Samsonite carry-on and one on my black leather back pack. I think they look great (black and platinum go together).

The Platinum Card also sent me a very nice black leather passport/jacket wallet that I always use for tickets, currencies, passport, hotel and airline cards, etc.

Hmm. Having axel1 accusing AmEx of lying made me think about this numbers discrepancy again. On the one hand there is the number of 15,000 distributed copies of the German Centurion Magazine, which I believe to be correct (*). On the other hand we have the number of 25,000 German Centurion Card holders, according to some AmEx insiders. Taking a closer look this is perfectly logical: There are obviously about 15,000 main card members, and 10,000 holders of additional cards, typically spouses, who of course don't get their own copy of the magazine.

* The reason I believe this number to be correct is the fact that companies of course want to know exactly in what kind of publication they are going to advertise. Therefore the numbers have to be correct, they are part of the contract. Otherwise there would probably be more lawsuits than AmEx could stand.

To answer the original question: Yes, I did receive luggage tags with the initial platinum card forms package, the same type of tags BangkokFlyer describes.

....but, as I explained in another thread, the magazine is published in Munich for german members, and also for UK and International Dollar card members in english.

The question is : 15,000 copies or 15,000 copies in german (also for swiss members ?) ?

I'm sure it's 15,000 for Germany. Other countries/languages are extra.
