A couple of people have asked me this: they have AMEX Gold and/or Delta Skymiles Gold and are wondering if there is a reason NOT to reduce one or both to just "regular" cards, which would save on the yearly fees?

I would keep the Amex Gold card just for the Best Value Guarantee benefit (this would easily cover the annual fee if used regularly). Also, the annual fee for the regular Delta Skymiles card is waived if you have a charge card (Green, Gold, Platinum). I don't see much difference between the regular and the Gold Skymiles cards other than the sign up bonus, so I would recommend keeping the Gold card and downgrading to the regular Skymiles card.

For me, the big difference is the annual mileage cap - 60K for the regular vs. 100K for the gold.
