American Express Membership Rewards - Platinum now like candy
AMEX (UK) seem to be giving out Platinum like candy at the moment. In the last month I have received three pre-approved Platinum invitations from: Hilton (twice); Virgin Atlantic and today from Qualiflyer.
I do not have a UK bank account yet alone a UK AMEX card, so these would apear to be based on earnt and COMPED status to various loyalty programs.
It sure does take the shine of that piece of plastic. Mind you Centurion is not much better, three offers in the last month as well - at least they are linked to existing accounts.

It used to be special. But that was when PLAT was "limited to the top 1%". Should have kept that letter for the amusement it would now bring.
Indeed, I now only ever use my Green supplementary card as I consider this to be more exclusive (in purely mathematical terms) than Gold or Platinum
My personal favorite is still "good old" Diners Club.
Still not very well enough accepted, but at least no attitude and v.v. good customer service.
In the US the Hilton Platinum Card is not the same as the AE Platinum Card (Charge card) it is similar to the AE Optima Platinum Card (Credit card) which do not have the US$300 annual fee.
Just to clarify this is for the Personal Platinum, the normal charge card - not any co-branded card.

axel1: and for those who qualify, the Swiss Diners Club card gives 2.4 BA Miles per pound (1 mile per SFr) for regular expenditure, which is a much better earning rate than BA Amex cards in the UK (1.5 per £).

Could have sworn I got one in my cornflakes packet the other morning....
Mine has two months left 'til they help themselves to my renewal fee....not this time AMEX.
One less cardholder, so technically I am making it more exclusive for all you guys!!

Australia has generally had good Platinum service BUT I am worried when I ring the Platinum line today and the first option is "Press Zero if you are responding to a Platinum offer".
Seems the candy jar has been spilt and we can expect an "Americanization" of our service levels! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
