I have the Platinum Card. How does the supplemental card process work? Does the card have the same account number? Do I need the Social Security number of the intended supplemental cardholder?

I have a plat amex, and since my little brother is in college I added him, he gets his own number.
When u call and add they will ask for SS, DOB
they usually send the card out within 24 hrs

So, how does Membership Rewards work with supplemental cards, as they have different account numbers? Do I still get the points?

You'll get the points. Your account may show up on their credit report though.

You definitely get all the MR points. If you're signed up for AMEX online, your online reports will show charges on both account, he'll only be able to see his.

As for credit reports - your brother's report won't reflect ANY of his activity on the account if you both pay on time, but once either of you takes too long to pay the bills - both your credit reports will reflect that.

BTW, if your brother hasn't had a great history with AMEX or a very problematic one with other creditors, you should order the extra card for him w/o giving AMEX his SSN. Claim that you don't have it with you, and they'll process the application anyway. May take a few days longer though.
