American Express Membership Rewards - Amex price matching

I recall reading somewhere in the American Express threads that the US Platinum card guarantees the lowest price for hotels, flights, merchandise. If you find a lower price for the same fare, room, whatever, they send you a cheque for the difference.

Is this the case and, more importantly, does something like this exist for the UK Platinum Card? I have never come across it in my 'kit'.

I don't know specifically if Platinum offers this service, but for those cards that do, it applies to merchandise only - not hotels or flights.

Seems pretty pointless even asking about this now since benefits on Platinum cards seem to decreasing by the day. This is quickly becoming a mass market product and unsurprisingly Amex can't keep their promises.

My platinum card offers this service and it works great for computer hardware and such.
