Mahalo eager to learn Aug 14, 01, 12:03 pm i already have a delta skymiles card. posted this info for someone else to use. do you think i should post it on Miles Buzz? i am still learning. clublounger Aug 14, 01, 12:25 pm I'm thinking that the Delta board would be a good place for it. Posting on the Buzz seems to be at your own risk of a scolding! Is there some way to apply online listed on the form? ronh Aug 16, 01, 12:14 pm My girlfriend got an offer for the regular AE skymiles card with 5000 miles with the first year's fee waived. She grabbed it. I called up trying to get the same offer but they said they couldn't offer it to me because the marketing/promo dept. had to solicit me. I just called the 800 number at the top and applied for the offer with first year's fee waived. Nice! Thank You! I receive the offer every month when my AMEX statement arrives. It is a good deal, just be sure you can live with the annual fee.....it is waived for the first year in most cases but shows up right on time at your annual renewal date. phoenixitc Aug 17, 01, 3:20 pm You might wanna see if they are still offering the Platinum card with 15k bonus points. ronh Aug 17, 01, 3:51 pm I think I can live with the fee. I'm just new to all of this and wanted some incentive to get another mileage card (my second card in 2 weeks). Sounds like a good deal though, esp. since I've been using Delta lately. Good point Phoenixitc, I should have asked about the Platinum. Probably too late now. Quick question: Is it possible to switch cards after the first year? I figure, after this year is up what is the point of paying the $85 fee for the Gold card when I can just apply for the regular one for $55/year and basically get the same benefits? Would I be able to keep the 10,000 miles? I know it's not much more money, but over the course of several years why pay more if I get nothing more. The nominal benefits, like "end of year summary", don't sound worth it. Anyone have any thoughts on this?? teammjs Aug 21, 01, 4:15 pm ronh, there's no problem with keeping the 10k. several of my family members signed-up, then cancelled within months. the miles post within about a month, and they don't take them back. if you want to keep an AmEx with "basic" benfits, check into the Hilton Optima card. you get 7500 Hilton points for sign-up and the card (so far) doesn't have an annual fee. you could switch to this one when your year with Delta is almost up. <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by ronh: Quick question: Is it possible to switch cards after the first year? No problem, approved. Problem: because I once had a Delta Amex, I'm not eligible for any of the promotional benefits. No bonus miles. Must pay annual fee. No balance transfer promotional rate. NO thanks! teammjs Aug 27, 01, 11:31 am interesting. i've noticed that the AmEx applications in the Delta statements now ask you for "previous AmEx card history". since i have a Hilton Optima as well, thought about seeing if i could give them that one, but it sounds like they might be tightening up. i've heard others say in the past that they've been able to do it twice. anyone successfully able to obtain the 10k bonus twice recently?? <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by clublounger: Got a call from Amex yesterday. (this prevents people from cancelling and then signing up again 2 months later) milesforyourmoma Aug 28, 01, 9:16 pm I too have this card and got it for the bonus miles. I use this card only at stores that double miles. I have maxed it out at Home Depot. I have bought gift cards with it to get double miles. I bought batteries for 50c with a $100 gift card, got the cash back and earned miles.I immediately deposited the money in my bank account to collect interest. That is the best way to rack up miles for nothing (as long as you return the stuff for cash). Rickejjt Dec 23, 01, 10:48 am Wondering what to do as my "fee free year" on the Delta Skymiles and Hilton Honors Platinum AMEX cards will be up soon. Do you have any suggestions? I've never paid a fee for a credit card and don't want to start now? I have enjoyed the bonus miles for signing up for them not to mention the double miles for grocery shopping, gas, home improvements etc... The Hilton Honors Platinum has been great for the 3 for 1 and 5 for 1 honors points. As so many other ff have said I'm want more for less. Any suggestions will be appreciated! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif swag Dec 23, 01, 11:46 am <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by Rickejjt: Wondering what to do as my "fee free year" on the Delta Skymiles and Hilton Honors Platinum AMEX cards will be up soon.
