American Express Membership Rewards - I don't think they want to give me platinum

I have a corp gold amex and seven more for my employees. I called customer service about three weeks ago and asked them to give me the platinum card. They said no problem, thanks, bye bye.

I've not heard boo since then. Any experience in this specific area? Is this the sign of poor service, a foul up, or standard operating procedure?

I do not know your record with AmEx, nor the difference with US vs Canada AmEx, but I have Platinum, and it took over a month to arrive.

When migrating you from one card to another, American Express will wait until the close of your current billing cycle to make the transition and mail out your new card. Your old card will then remain active until you receive the new card in the mail and call the 800 number to activate it.

I'd expect you'll receive the Platinum membership kit 2 weeks or so after the close of your billing cycle. It's unusual that this wouldn't have been explained to you when you requested the conversion, and I'd consider that to be a failing on their part.

Enjoy the Platinum benefits!

Don't worry. They'll be happy to take your $300.

It is a sign of all 3. Undoubtedly you are used to it by now.

One thing to keep in mind, if you do get the Platinum card, call to make sure your existing gold / green card is cancelled. I received my Platinum card in March & was told my existing card was cancelled. Yet I still received statements with a zero balance under my old number (along with my new statements). I then called up and had to request the canceling of my orginal card. They say they can't do it without authorization from the cardholder.

Not sure if you paid extra for your employee Gold Cards, but additonal Platinum cards cost extra with personal accounts, not sure for Corp. Thats one reason I keep Gold, 5 free additional cards.

This point has been discussed here already.

No, the "platinum colored no-fee" cards are not "true platinum" cards.

The true Platinum cards are :
- the Platinum card (same design as the green card)
- the Fidelity Platinum card

All other cards (Costco, Cash rebate, Optima, Hilton, etc.) are equivalent to the standard green or gold cards.
Customer using these cards only are usually not intended to be upgraded to Centurion.

This is incorrect. "Standard" green/gold American Express cards are charge cards (full balance payment is required monthly), while Optima, Hilton, Starwood, etc. are credit cards from American Express (revolving balance is allowed with only minimum payment required monthly).
