American Express Membership Rewards - Any bonus for upgrading DL amex to Plat?

I searched and couldn't find anything recent. In the past Amex offered a bonus of 5,000 Skymiles which counted as DL base miles to upgrade from the Gold DL Amex to the Plat DL Amex (with it's higher fee). I am considering that I might do this since I may be right on the edge of flying 50K miles to renew my GM status this year, and with %K extra base miles I'd definitely make it. If anyone has knowledge of offers/promos/referral deals for this, please let me know. Thanks!

What I did last year was I called and told them I DID NOT want to upgrade,but to purchase the platinum card and I got 15,000 miles + on renewal of the card this year I got a free companion ticket. Then after I got the platinum card I cancelled the other one. I thought the original fee of 125.00 +the yearly renewal of 125., a total of 250.00 got me a free ticket and 15,000 miles. i thought this was a good value.

The 'free ticket' isn't all it's cracked up to be:
- there are a range of travel dates, plus blackout dates
- there is a minimum fare for the domestic ticket (think $348)
- there are minimum fare codes (Y,B,M) for international ticket
- no stopovers or open jaws
- no FF miles for the companion
- no upgrade availability.

If your a Gold or Platinum Medallion member, a trip from the US to Europe can easily total 20k miles. That's a lot to give up.
