American Express Membership Rewards - Need details about "Spend $25K, Get 10K bonus."

Several posts here have referred to a bonus of 10,000 miles if you spend $25,000 on a Skymiles card in a given year. I have a couple of questions about this bonus:

- I obtained my Amex Gold Skymiles card in early October 2000 during the 50,000 mile match-existing-miles bonus offer. I received 10,000 bonus miles with my first purchase and am (hopefully) close to receiving an additional 50,000-mile bonus. Does anyone know for certain whether this card also awards the $25K/10,000-mile bonus? (In other words, is the $25K bonus attached to all Skymiles cards, or just certain offers.)

- I understand that the $25K must be spent in a 1-year timeframe. Does anyone know how they calculate the dates for the 1-year timeframe? Is it from your actual first purchase, or is it through your 12th or 13th bill round? Or...is it a rolling year of some sorts?

Your 1-year bonus will occur after you are billed next year for your annual membership. The 10k points will come 6-8 weeks later. Your monthly statement will show your $$s-to-date on the last page.

I thought that this only applied to Platinum cards????

I think cactuspete is correct - the 10,000 miles are for the Plat card only, and are applied to your base DL miles. The $25K is counted on a membership year for each individual (from date of renewal/start). The gold card had a one time base miles bonus when you signed up but they did not make it a recurring type bonus.

I've read on another thread that the 10,000 bonus on Platinum Delta AmEx after $25,000 spending is issued the month after the $25,000 spending limit is reached. Now I read that this 10,000 miles is actually a renewal bonus. Does anyone here have direct experience with getting the 10,000 miles and when they were received?

i changed from gold to platinum because of the extra 10000 miles to be credited when i spent $25000. i discussed this with the csr and was assured the miles would be posted soon after. i have called amex, and have recd a letter 2 months ago saying it is being looked into-- another csr said it would be posted at the end of 12 months of having the card-- do i have to pay a second annual fee of 135 to get the 10000 miles i was promised at the time i got the card-- i should not have to pay for another year if i wish to cancel my card-- and will i get the miles at the end of the year if i do cancel?

I recently received an "offer" to upgrade from Gold DL AMEX to Platinum DL AMEX and this was stated on the offer: "You'll earn 5,000 base miles with your very first purchase (1). And you'll earn another 10,000 base miles at the end of every year in which you charge $25,000 in purchases to the card (2)."

Fine Print: (1) "Please allow 6-8 weeks after your first purchase for the base miles to appear on your Delta SkyMiles statement."
(2) "Please allow 6-8 weeks from the month you RENEW your annual Cardmembership for the base miles to appear on your Delta SkyMiles statement."
This sounds to me that, since the renewal date is 12 months after the platinum card is issued, you have to pay the renewal fee before you're eligible for the 10,000 base miles, regardless of when you satisfy the $25,000 spending requirement.

Yes, but if you cancel the card after you pay the renewal fee, AMEX will pro-rate the number of unused months and refund back to you.
