American Express Membership Rewards - Which Arport Lounges are avail for PLAT?View Full Version : Which Arport Lounges are avail for PLAT? Oliver Feb 15, 01, 5:24 am Is there any list? I could not find it on the AMEX homepage. Howie Feb 15, 01, 6:05 am http://www10.americanexpress.com/sif/cda/page/0,1641,3135,00.asp For German Cards only the "Private Airport Clubs" apply. I can remember that Amex told me something about a lounge in vienna some time ago, but this one seems not to be valid any longer. RichardMannion Feb 15, 01, 7:47 am Which Country of Platinum card? UK, US, DE, HK? Uk members have the most choice for lounge access. ahrz Feb 16, 01, 2:48 am I think the rules are the same for all "true" Amex Platinum cards (no Optima platinum or Delta Skymiles etc.) : << Continental Airlines’ Presidents Club®, Northwest Airlines WorldClubs®, and TWA Ambassadors Club®, when flying these airlines. >> ----------------------------------------- Another question: Do all "true" Platinum card numbers start with "37xx 88...." (where xx depends on the card currency, I just want to check if they all have the "88") ? dnw Feb 16, 01, 3:19 am Nope, mine is UK and has always been "82" dnw Markie Feb 16, 01, 4:45 am The only way to tell is that they have the format 3XXX 8XXXXX XXXX. Roger Feb 16, 01, 5:48 am As Richard Mannion points out, UK platinum cards have the widest choice of lounges. In addition to those mentioned, we have Virgin Clubhouses, the Eurostar (railroad) lounges and British Midland lounges when using those operators, as well as Priority Pass offering around 300 lounges worldwide (but none in Australia). RichardMannion Feb 16, 01, 11:41 am The only rule on using the Virgin, British Midland, Eurostar or TWA lounges is that you must have a ticket for that day flying in any class on that particular airline. E.g. You can't go in to the Virgin Clubhouses if you are flying BA. Rich pynchonesque Feb 17, 01, 5:11 pm Nope -- mine is 37xx87. It's a US-based "true" plat. Do all "true" Platinum card numbers start with "37xx 88 ahrz Feb 18, 01, 6:54 am Uk members have the most choice for lounge access All true Platinum cards have the same design. Only the 3rd and 4th card digits (the card currency code) differs. I don't think that lounge people really check the card number...so : every true Platinum cardmember have access to all lounges "platinum lounges", in UK, Canada or else ! This is different for cardmembers holding a Priority Pass card (I think only UK Platinum and some Centurion cardmembers), who have access to much more lounges. RichardMannion Feb 18, 01, 1:02 pm Ahrz, All AmEX cards start with 37. All UK Platinum card starts 3742 82 and all UK Centurion Cards start with 3742 88. A item to note is the last but one number is the card number in your platinum account. eg. The first card in the account (Primary Card) is :- 37xx-xxxxxx-xxx0x The second card on the account (Normally the AC card for seaprting business expenses) is :- 37xx-xxxxxx-xxx1x etc. Virgin Clubhouses do check the country closely, they will only let in UK issued Platinum or Centruion Cards 3742 82 or 3742 88. No other cards will be accepted. Supplementary cards on Platinum or Centurion accounts will also follow the above numbering conventions even though they may be on Green, Gold or Platinum coloured plastic. Rich The last digit is the check digit for the card number so that it meets a validation rule. RichardMannion Feb 18, 01, 1:05 pm The Platinum Cards are cosmetically similar, Centurion cards are not. THe UK Centruion card has a Silver MULTOS chip and the words "Charter Member" on the right hand side of the centurion head. US cards do not. I think the same applies to the German and Hong Kong cards but someone should be able to confirm. dnw Feb 18, 01, 3:55 pm Hi all, Markie- 37xx 8xxx is not necessarily Platinum. My gold cards were of this format before the account was upgraded to platinum. In fact the entire middle set of digits was identical for both cards. Richard- I'm expecting a Centurion card this week (took the plunge...) and I'll hedge my bets that the middle digits will be the same as the Platinum... also I think only the first cards that were sent out free for the first few months in 99 had "Charter Member" on them. I'll answer both for sure later in the week! DNW wmvink Feb 18, 01, 8:04 pm You're right. I have a no-annual-fee student card with digits 37** 8***** etc. Definitely not platinum!!! eMailman Feb 19, 01, 3:15 am US PLAT starts with 3713, US Centurion with 3715. ahrz Feb 19, 01, 7:18 am Richard, Thanks, it confirms what I know about Amex card numbers (1st and 3rd digit groups). The 00 in the 3 group is always for the main card. My french Amex Plat is : 3749 88xxxx xx00x My A.C card : ---- ------ --01- The supplementary Plat : ---- ------ --02- The supplementary gold cards attached to my main card account are numbered in sequence 03, 04 (The Centurion is not available in France). The digit before the '00' is always a '0', unless your card was lost/stolen. The replacement card becomes then a '1', a '2' the 2nd time, etc... So.. if the lounge people don't really check the card numbers, my french Plat should work in UK ! RichardMannion Feb 19, 01, 10:56 am DNW, Are you Uk based? Did you get invited to join Centurion? What did the invite look like? Or did you ask to be upgraded? The reason I ask is that Centurion can't make their mind up and are now telling me that they are not taking any more members. Thanks, Richard dnw Feb 20, 01, 2:48 am Hi Richard, We've already had this conversation in the thread "UK Centurion Inivitation - Suprise and Disapointment" thanks, DNW (UK) Steve M Feb 20, 01, 3:12 am I have a corporate US Platinum card, which has all of the benefits of the personal Platinum (including lounge access), plus some extra corporate stuff. It also costs $300 a year. It starts with 37271. Also, when I first got the card, I seem to remember some place on the Amex web site that asked me to enter the first 5 digits of the card number to get at some of the Corporate Platinum benefit pages. What I don't know is whether ALL US Corporate Platinum cards start with 37271. dnw Mar 1, 01, 6:23 am This morning I received the Direct Debit form for my Centurion account (UK). In the field "account number" the first few digits are pre-filled as 3742-88 which would seem to confirm that all UK Centurions are of this format. DNW |
