In checking out the details on the AMEX travel accident insurance, I noticed a detail that surprised me. The $250,000 is payable only if you inform them within 20 days. When I asked the AMEX customer service rep, how that would be possible if my plane went down, she replied that "maybe you should make someone aware that you are an AMEX member so they can make the claim."

I was really surprised by this (not wanting my wife to deal with this sort of thing, if the unfortunate should happen.)

Are other credit cards this way.

I notice others so AUTOMATIC which I do not see on the AMEX card.

But what does this have to do with Membership Rewards?

The Amex insurance contract is one thing, the laws another.
In Germany or France, you have to inform the company if you can do it, as soon as you can do it.
But if you can't, a company is not allowed to refuse to pay.
I think it should be the same in the US, every lawyer can confirm this.
