This sounds like a great deal... I have read the terms, and there are no "hidden" costs... You can purchase up to 45 cards at once.. Max value for each card is US$300.00 AND YES, you can purchase the cards for yourself.. Seems easy...

So let's fo the math:

45 Cards * US$300.00 = US$13,500

13,500 Points tripled = 40,500 points

Not a bad deal...

DelrayChris, Considering the amount of entertaining that I do with my job, I thought this was a great deal until I ready that there was a $5.95 fee for each card.

Although with triple points, one still earns more points than having paid for them with the processing fee that Amex charges, one wonders why they charge a fee at all, considering the business that one is giving Amex when buying these cards.

raffy,

You are right... BUT... They charge the $5.95 to cover their costs (i.e., packaging, marketing, etc..) It is still an excellent opportunity to gain points, as you can Xfre your MR points to airline, or hotels..

45 Cards * US$5.95 = US$268.00

This is still a steal... Especially if you dine out, or as you, entertain..

DelrayChris, Upon further review of the terms and conditions, it appears that one can recharge the card for a reduced fee of $2.95 instead of ordering a new one at a fee of $5.95. Sounds like a good deal for the number of points earned.

it sure does!! That's easy pickin's... So in effect, if you have your MR linked to a FF program you would be getting triple miles... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The 3x bonus says 'purchase', not 'recharge'. I would check this with AMEX before ordering them. The ~$6 processing fee gets your an extra 600 miles (if ordering the $300 card), not a bad rate.

Also, I don't think it makes much sense to order more cards than you can use within a few months. Remember, you have to put the money out up front, so whatever you gain from the extra miles you lose from your money not collecting interest.

This card is really a good idea.
But is not available outside of the US.

Amex could also launch a prepaid card like this for Children. The kids could go shopping without risk for you, and without carrying a lot of cash !

Correct. I ordered one back in November, added value to it, and confirmed that you DO NOT receive 3x points when recharging the same card, only when ordering a new one. Also, it took me about 2.5 weeks to receive it from the day I ordered it. I'm on my third one right now.
