I want to fly to the Virgin Islands this summer on American. I have quite a few MR points, but cannot transfer them to AMerican. Has anyone tried transferring MR points to Starpoints, then transferring Starpoints to AAdvantage miles? Also, can Starpoints from one account be transferred to different AAdvantage accounts?

Thanks!

There are numerous threads on how best to use MR points on American, including a very recent thread under "Just Randy" (or whatever it's called).

A search should turn up all of these threads.

The short answer: yes, you can "launder" MR points through Starwood into American, though you suffer the 3:1 Starwood xfer ratio. This gives you the greatest flexibility, as you can then use any American awards.

Otherwise, you can xfer into USAirwarys (at 1:1) and see if any of the special AA/US awards fit the bill. In fact, there are awards at 35K, 60K, and 80K for travel between the States and Caribbean using "combined" miles.

I second the USAir deal. There is no devaluation with it, and very easy to do. If you have no points with AA, just transfer to US and deal with them directly for travel on AA.

Thanks! I read the threads and transferring to USAir is by far the best deal.
