When I was in a Costco in San Diego recently, the checker told me that in October, Costco would be offering a free amex platinum card that would double as a costco card. He clarified that the card would cost nothing, other than normal cosco membership fees, and would have ALL the benefits of the normal Amex Card. Can this be true? :?

I would guess maybe it will be the Platinum Optima AMEX card ...
If it's the genuine article, I forsee a lot of people being livid...

I seriously doubt that this will be a Platinum CHARGE card...most tie-ins aim to take advantage of potential interest income for AMEX (except Fidelity)...This is surely an American Express Platinum Credit Card (seems they have been getting away from the Optima moniker lately).
Still, with all this platinum floating around, has the geniune article lost its cache?

The Optima Platinum card from American Express is an NO annual fee card for anybody who wants to get it.

My guess is that it is a CostCo co-branded version of this Optima Platinum Card, and not the $300/year Regulat Platinum American Express Card.
(Even the Fidelity Amercian Express CoBranded Platinum Card is still $225/year)
