Westin Premier - Upgrades

I'm a Gold member but notice that hotels don't always upgrade me. As a Black card member with Marriott I also get upgraded to the Concierge Floor every time but it seems that Westin doesn't have that policy. I hate to sound like a whinner but what's the best way to make sure you get what you are supposed to get?

I'm a Burgundy member and was upgraded automatically when I checked in as a Burgundy member. Maybe it varies from property to property. Ask for an upgrade if they do not give it to you.
