Hey everyone,

Newbie traveler here, just started a job as a consultant. I have ~18k EQM on American from traveling to Asia this past summer, and I had hoped to hit Gold by the end of the year. I got a huge curve ball thrown my way though, since I'm going to be staffed on a project in NYC for the next 4 months.

Since I'm based out of PIT, I'll be switching to DL. Here's my situation:

- Current MQM balance: 0!
- Alternating between NYC-PIT and NYC-MCO every week (950 and 335 miles)
- Since flights are somewhat short, I'm assuming hitting 30 MQS will be easier
- Will be traveling for 10 weeks until the end of the year, so that's 20 MQS
- Just got the SPG AMEX and Chase Sapphire Preferred, so probably not going to apply for an CCs in the near future

I have no experience with mileage/segment runs, but is it at all possible to fill in 10 segments for say, under $400? How would I go about constructing these runs?

Thanks!

nyc-pit or mco can be booked for 3 or 4 segs each rt for a bit more money & time....aa costs seem too high....

what nyc airport?

edit to add....you will be living in nyc, not pit?

I'd prefer to fly out of LGA, but JFK is fine too (for Thursday evening to Monday morning starting 10/8).

Otherwise, I could also do a run out of PIT any day up to 10/6.

You might be better off going for a mileage run and doing it on miles.

My calcs, based on your numbers, show that you would end the year with 14,500 MQMs, assuming you are flying on deeply discount coach tickets. (5 round trips to MCO = 9.500 + 5 round trips to NYC = 5,000)

You would only need to come up with 10,500 miles to hit silver. There have been a few decent MRs out of NYC on DL in the past month or so.

The other option would be to not take direct flights. If you can add a layover in ATL, MEM, CLT or even DTW, you would be able to make it on segments with just your current plans...

I think I'll pick up that PIT-BOS flight, 10k miles seems like a bit too much for me.

Thanks!

Damn I definitely saw that PIT-BOS itinerary on the 3rd from 10AM but now it's gone already. How are you finding these? I checked the ITA matrix and they're not coming up..

EDIT: NM my search terms were wrong

Are there any other cities that would be good?

orbitz is still showing the 6 & 10am on 10/2 & 3....maybe try there...does the 6 am show?

Yeah I see the 6AM, but I can't take a flight out that early. I don't have a car, and the earliest bus gets me to the airport at 5:30AM. Taxi is like $60.

Hmmm, I'm wondering if it would make more sense for me to go on a 6.7k MR on American. If I do a transcon from NYC-SFO I'd almost make it, and I could actually stay a weekend and enjoy it.
