Qantas Frequent Flyer - QF11 down gauge 380 to 747
Wednesday's (Sept 19) QF11 is listed as a 747 instead of the usual A380. Is this the normal schedule or IRROPS? If IRROPS kudos to Qantas for getting an aeroplane flying to LAX but how often does this happen that they could rustle up a 747 flight crew (maybe easy in Sydney) - but who's flying the aeroplane back ex LAX on Wednesday Night?
I saw this on flightstats and flightaware so I presume the correct aircraft type is listed.

Is QF107 an A380 that day instead?
747 crew in LAX isn't a problem. There are normally 2 747s going to LAX every day anyway.
If the aircraft isn't operating QF107 (thus 2 A380 going to LAX and 2 747 as normal, they do sometimes swap 107 to a 380), then it is likely scheduled maintenance.
The 12 A380s allow QF to operate 2xAU-LHR and 2xAU-LAX daily + 3xSYD-HKG weekly + 1 in MNL for cabin config. If anything changes (such as need for maintenance), a flight needs to be changed to a 747.
There will be more of this coming soon as a number of A380s are coming due for C checks.
The 747 has been operating the QF11/12 for three days a week for a couple of weeks - I think the days are Wed, Sunday and Monday.

I just read that - underneath where they were saying they were going to convert all their A380s to the new configuration. So I'm guessing the 747 replacement is for that reason?

They need the following to operate the schedule:
MEL-SIN-LHR: 3
SYD-SIN-LHR: 3
MEL-LAX: 2
SYD-LAX: 2
SYD-HKG: 1
11 aircraft + 1 in reconfig
If any of those 11 operating A380s is unserviceable for whatever reason, some flights have to be replaced by a 747. There are 3 A380s coming due for C checks over the next few months...
