Hello,

I am attempting to reach Executive Platinum on AA by flying 25k before year end through a flight challenge. I am based in Hong Kong and am having a hard time figuring out which OneWorld flights will get me to the necessary miles for a specific fare class. I am thinking about one flight to either SF, JFK, LAX on Cathay and another weekend in London or Paris (British Airways?). I am open to any other mileage run opportunities as well. I am also planning a trip to Hawaii in December but the return leg will be in 2013 (possibly Hawaiian Air, Korea Air, or JAL).

Any help is greatly appreciated. :)

Regards.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. No. of miles/segments that you have at present.

0. I am doing trying a flight challenge to reach Executive Platinum on AA. I'm a UA 1K.

2. How many more miles/segments will it take to reach your goal.

25K by Dec 31, 2012

3. Where are you are based.

Hong Kong (HKG)

4. Whether or not there is some place specific that you would really like to go.

Frequent SFO/LAX visitor. But would be open to Europe, East Coast. Any place that can be done in a long weekend, 3-4 days.

5. Dates you are available to travel are must a must - in both directions, please!

Long weekends in November and December. Can depart HKG on Thursday, prefer to be back in HKG by Monday morning.

6. Also, it would help if you mentioned the budget, please!

This is out of pocket so economy with 100% EQM preferred.

aa flight #'s will get 1 eqm/flight mi....so look for code shares.....using aa.com should show them....

do you need 25k eqm or eqp? if eqp, there is a table on aa.com showing the eqp earned for fare codes....the cheaper flights get .5 pt/mi...

edit to add.....hkg-jfk via nrt is ~ 17k rt.....do jfk-sfo via lax rt while you are in ny & the 1 way to hnl should do it....

check out the #s.....i haven't finished my coffee, so might have missed something...

ps....~ $1250 for hkg-jfk in oct....

pps....get confirmation re codeshares counting on your deal....they do on plt & gld challenges...

there has been a lot of discussion of status match challenges in the aa forum...

might be worth searching & wading thru some threads.....

Hi Clacko,

Thanks for the response :D. I need 25k EQM or points on or before Dec. 31, 2012. I'm checking on a British Airway deal to London for $600 usd for codeshare like you suggested. The JFK trips looks about right too.

Cheers,

I think that Cathay has a HKG-JFK flight in premium economy for ~$1900. the 17K RT miles would become 25.5K points at 1.5 points per mile for premium economy. As long as that fits in your budget, you can do it in one round trip.

Also, it just occurred to me that the challenge may need to be on AA metal. Be sure to verify before you buy your ticket.

look at ex-TPE fares also, this market is much more competitive than ex-HKG
