As FB Gold I seem to remember that I get free upgrade to Economy Comfort seating. Did I dream that?

Certainly I have found in some cases that I could reserve my seat for free in EC, but maybe that was just a function of my booking class?

This time to select a seat in that area they want money.

I'm talking KL only here - so ignore if you're actually talking AF.

FB Gold never got "Economy Comfort" for free on KL - only at a discount.

FB Gold used to get free Exit Row seats on KL, but that changed last year.

Thanks Irish-guy.
The KLM site says:

"If you are a Platinum Flying Blue member, or if you travel on a fully flexible Economy ticket, you pay nothing extra for an Economy Comfort seat. Flying Blue Gold members and SkyTeam Elite Plus members of our partner airlines receive a 50% discount. Flying Blue Silver members pay 25% less."

So that explains it: when I have bought an expensive economy ticket I have been automatically upgraded to Economy Comfort.

What are the exact booking classes that qualify for EC? I have a ticket booked in U on MEX-AMS and that does not upgrade me to EC.

Could it be that it's only booking class Y?

As per the KLM website, those in Fully Flexible Economy fares have free access to Economy Comfort seats.

The KLM website further shows (https://www.klm.com/travel/nl_en/plan_and_book/ticket_information/ticket_conditions/index.htm#p3) that, on Intercontinental Flights, booking classes Y, B and M are designated Economy Fully Flexible.
