Night and Day, no comparison. CX lounge is snail speed and website takes awhile to load up. Airport Free Wi-Fi is blazingly fast. Amazing....

If you look around in the HKG CX lounges, almost everyone is working on their laptops. If you go outside the lounges, there are only a few people on laptops. The concentration of users in a small area can cause a bottleneck.

The LHR T5 BA lounge is worse even with fewer users.

When that happens, it is normally the time for me to close my laptop, sip a drink, and rest in the lounge.

How about the computers in the lounge?

As an IT guy, I'm voting with @cxfan1960. A few people in the lounge watching videos would negate hundreds of backpackers in the terminal sending texts to their friends. Bottom line: without network stats, there's no way to know what the respective network loads were. And you also need many data points.

This was true in the BA F lounge at JFK while I was waiting for CX889, according to an FTer I met up there, and other TRs I've seen.

I wasn't experiencing that, but I was using my phone's 3G as a portable hotspot. ;)

Haven't tried the airport WIFI yet, but I was able to remotely connect to my office PC and do some work, so the speed is ok in the 6 hours I stayed in the lounges..

My only complain is VPN is being blocked so I have no choice but to use logmein.

If you are in F lounge on Pier you have to sit close to the area where you first walk in, if you go into dining area or even opposite the coffee bar its rubbish

Was happy with my laptop connection today at "The Cabin". Was seated in the furthest corner table of the "IT zone". Dunno if that had any effect?

I believe that the internet has been upgraded with the lounge upgrades ie The Cabin and The Wing get good speed, but The Pier does not. Has anyone experienced slow speed in The Wing also?

No, but I can't enter it.

I was at The Wing this Jun and the wifi speed was hopeless.
Not sure if a dude who was watching p0rn in the lounge ate all bandwidth... :p

HKGolden.com took about 1.5 minutes and only 1/2 the page showed up when I used the CX WiFi connection.
On my phone in YVR I can get the whole page to load in 25 seconds.
In HKG about 18.
HKAirport Free Wifi took 10.
(Rogers, China Mobile, both on 4G SIM cards)
