I'm not sure if this is the right forum for my question. Please redirect me if I'm asking for help in the wrong place. Next Feb, my wife and I are flying out of JFK in F at 12:50 AM to Hong Kong. We will have arrived that same day from TPA around 3 PM. Instead of spending almost 8 hours in the CX/AA executive lounge, I thought if might be nicer to relax in a hotel room IF there is one that's readily accessible from terminal 7. I can't seem to find if there are any hotels attached to the concourse/terminal from which we will depart. Are there any? If not, does anyone have a suggestions for us? In the same breath, I supposed we won't suffer too much if we have to camp in the executive lounge. Your input and advice will be appreciated.

There are no good hotel options, but going into NYC for a nice dinner definitely is an option. Would you consider that?

"Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?"
He just grinned and shook my hand, "No!", was all he said.
The hotels around Kennedy are crap. A trip to the city would take too long, and what are you going to do with your bags? and worry about getting back in time!
Better off in the lounge. Be glad you don't have to wait in the concourse.

Blumie makes a great point. You're arriving into the best restaurant city in America. You can have a good dinner, walk around a bit and then when you get on your flight, you'll have eaten well and be ready for sleep.

A trip to the city would take too long, and what are you going to do with your bags? and worry about getting back in time!Putting aside that you quote one of the best songs in the history of rock music, your advice is completely off base. The OP has over 9 hours between flights. He arrives at 3pm and his JFK-HKG flight is not until after midnight. How is that possible not enough time? Yes, he does have to find someplace to put his bags. But with 9 hours, he will have plenty of time to go to the BA lounge in Terminal 7 (that's the lounge CX uses), leave his bags, and head into the city.

It appears that my options are limited. Thanks for your ideas. Does anyone know if the BA lounge will hold my luggage for safe keeping? If not, I guess I could rent lockers. Going into the city might be a hassle but it'll "eat up" at least 3-4 hours of waiting time. Thanks again all!

I'm sorry, but where do they rent lockers?

Does anyone know if the BA lounge will hold my luggage for safe keeping? There is an area in the lounge where you can store your bags.
Nine hours will give you plenty of time to check into the BA lounge, store your bags, and head into the city for a nice (and unrushed) dinner. But if you'd prefer to stick closer to the airport, we also can provide recommendations for restaurants nearby.

First of all, thank you for taking your time to respond to my posting. My wife would rather we find a nice restaurant nearby the airport in lieu of going into the city. If you could, I would appreciate a few suggestions. The type/kind of food is not a factor; just has to be "good".
Again, I would like to thank everyone for their comments.

JFK is as remote a location as you can find in NYC for non-chain restaurants. I can only think of an Indian restaurant (not high-end but good) in nearby Richmond Hill/Jamaica area on Lefferts Blvd.
If you are willing to make a little effort on commute - I think a variety of restaurants are available in Forest Hills, Queens.
There's a high-end steakhouse right in the AA Terminal at JFK.
In Forest Hills -- about a 20-minute cab ride from the airport -- you can find one of the best pizzerias in the city (Nick's), as well as another high-end steakhouse ("aged"), an Argetinean-style steakhouse (Pampas Aregentinas on Metropolitan Avenue), Italian (Family Restaurant, Portofino), Greek (Corfu, Agora), bistro/pub (Bonfire Grill), etc. There's also a very good kosher deli (Ben's Best) in Rego Park, which is a few minutes further away than Forest Hills.
You certainly have time to go into Manhattan for dinner if you want to, and could do the roundtrip for two for under $30 via AirTrain and the subway.
As to your baggage, won't you be checking it through to HKG when you check in for your flight at TPA? Or will you have carry-ons?

Guv1976: Thank you too for your suggestions. Since there's 10 hours between our arrival at JFK and our departure for Hong Kong, I'm not sure that our luggage can be checked through. I will check to see if we can stow our luggage at the BA executive lounge; we will have a small carry-on. Late Feb in NYC could be a bit chilling. My wife will probably opt for the intraterminal steakhouse. Thanks again for your multiple ideas.

Do you plan on either a very long meal or eating very slowly? :)

You have PLENTY of time to head into the city & have an INCREDIBLE meal. The hotels around JFK generally suck )-:

The flight to HGK is painful whether in F or Y. So, do whatever you can to exhaust yourself during your lay-over so the flight is zzz. More on this later.
Best hotels near JFK = Sheraton or Courtyard. They are located in no mans land so without a car you won't have much flexibility.
It isn't an awful idea to rent a car depending on your arrival day (since you can avoid rush hour traffic and use vehicle to shield yourself from the cold weather). I acknowledge there is a difference between Tampa and NYC in late Feb. in temperatures.
If you get a car you have ability to stop for meal 2x once upon landing and later before flight. One good place to visit Forest Hills or REgo Park - I was thinking of London Lennie's on Woodhaven Blvd. (approx. 15 minutes from airport without traffic).
Within your time period - you can drive Belt Pkwy (see status of Lib., enter Manhattan, stop somewhere for dinner (parking is expensive), visit Central Park (if the drive path is open), Rockefeller Center, St. Patricks, etc. Others can chime in.
Another alternative is take a later flight from TPA into JFK so you don't have as long a lay-over if possible. I've done JFK to Asia numerous times and 13+ hrs on a plane drives anyone bonkers so try to sleep as much of it as possible. However, if you want to adjust to time-zone as quickly as possible program your body 12+ hr inverse. This would force you do the reverse and sleep during day and wake up at 8pm and stay awake in flight until 9AM ET on your watch so you adjust to the time zone. Easier said than done (I've never been successful in reprogramming prior to arrival).

RooseveltL: I appreciate your additional comments. I booked the trip (using miles) about 6 months ago. I will explore your suggestion re arriving from TPA in early evening to minimize the time spent in JFK. I've decided that I'll go with the flow and recognize that it's not that bad to have to "suffer" the long layover. Thanks all.
