Eager WN noob with questions.

Yesterday I booked a oneway on one of the select dates with WN points, if I were to conver that to a cash purchase I could get 25% off that trip. The issue is I have no use for a roundtrip and openjaw pricing does not seem to be eligible. Would booking a roundtrip with a dummy return date and changing the return after flying the outbound work? Would I forfeit the discount at that point?

I have booked alot of roundtrips and just taken the first part and not taken the second. The money goes back into TTF and you can use it to book another trip

As a work around for using the discount for a one-way, couldn't you just book a round-trip and cancel just the segment you don't need? Additionally, if you cancel the segment you don't need within 24 hours, is there an option to refund the money associated with just that segment back to your CC? Otherwise, you could take the TTFs.

Well, just tried the above out on a reservation and it works but you have to call after booking to make it happen. Wanted to use the 25% off on a one-way flight only. Booked a dummy outbound with the return I wanted as a round-trip. I then called up the A+ line and the agent was able to cancel the dummy outbound segment only and refund the funds for it back to my CC. No TTFs to deal with and the one-way segment I want remains at the discounted fare. YMMV. :D

So, I was in a hurry and screwed up and made 1 reservation for 2 people R/T. I normally do separate one ways....

Anyhow, the price has gone down significantly for 1 person, but not for 2. Does anyone know if I cancel my reservation, will it throw both flights back into inventory, and then have the lower fare available for 2 people?

That's a gamble.

Try this: Phone Southwest reservations to split the second person into a new record. Cancel that reservation and rebook at the lower fare. Then if the low fare is still available, use the Change Itinerary feature to lock in the lower fare for the first person.

Thanks NSX. The fare is gone for even 1 person now, but I will keep this in mind in case I make a stupid mistake again. Lesson learned, now I remember why I normally take the time to book separate one ways. :D
