United MileagePlus (Consolidated) - United Changed Reservation - Options?

United has made modifications to my reservation and I'm wondering what my options are. It would seem that if the airline made the changes then I would have the option to use a different flight. Fare class is X and when I called I was told I had to pay a $150 change fee which seems excessive when I'm not the one who made the change and I don't want to accept the reservation.
All I want to do is adjust the flights so I don't have a 5hr layover on departure and 4hr layover on return. The dates & cities will be the same.
I'm hoping that I just got an incompetent call center employee.

First, this should be in the United forum.
Second, call back until you get an agent who will help.

X is an award ticket.
There should be no fees for changing the time of flight, assuming its 21 days or more before departure, and the flights are available.
You can always redeposit for no fee in case of major schedule change as well.

Only United forum was for miles so sorry bout that. If one of the admins will relocate then I'd appreciate it.
If it matters. When I log into my United account it asks me to "accept" the reservation changes. There isn't a button to reject them.

You don't state how much of a change was made. You can try finding flights you like better, then you'll need to call to change to them. Don't ignore this, as it will eventually show you approved the change.

I will be happy to move this to the UA Forum. Welcome to Flyertalk.

MrPaulAR, welcome to FlyerTalk.
My co-moderator just moved this to the United forum and I agree that some more details would help the FlyerTalk community, such as the routing, operating carriers and amount of the time change due to the reservation changes. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator, TravelBuzz and United forums.

DO NOT accept the changes online. Call United - the kind of change you're talking about is absolutely possible no charge (I just did this a couple of days ago). I agree with earlier poster, if for whatever reason agent you get on the phone can't/won't help you, call again. It'll work. Of course, it'll work a little better the better status you have..........

One of the quirks of FlyerTalk. The forums are named after the FFP, not the airline. But it's any and all discussion for that airline in the forum. I expect there's some historical reason for the naming convention, but I also found it very confusing when I first started hanging out here.

Thanks. I called back and the second agent was quite helpful and more than happy to make the necessary changes to my itinerary.
The original flights were booked in Feb on Continental for a December flight and I'm sure part of the route updates were a result of the merger.

I didn't include flight numbers but they changed as well. The return leg wasn't much of a change but since they were willing to make a change on the departing leg I took advantage of that since a better connection was available to me.

Thanks for posting the resolution of this. Amplifies the normal advice in the forum, that if you do not like the auto-change or first resolution, don't accept it but call back.

Wonder how many FT'ers... besides you and ME.. have flown into and out of MLU this year!!!
Loved that little airport!^:D
Particularly loved the rental car rep (I've told this story before.. but it is a good'un) for asking:
"Would y'all take a truck?" :D

You've got something wrong here. No way can MLU-IAH be over 13 hours in length. I assume you mean depart Monroe at 12:40pm - or are you arriving IAH at 1:52am?
