Marriott Rewards (including Ritz-Carlton) - 10% discount on gift-shop for elites?

Just wondering whether this is completely dead or what other experience of it was?

On a recent trip after our luggage was delayed we needed to make a larger than usual amount of giftshop purchases in no less than three separate marriotts. In all three locations I was simply told, 'we don't do that, sorry' when I mentioned the discount.

Anyone any experience or is this such a small "benefit" that no-one cares?

Should I mention these hotels in a letter to MR or in a PM to Marriott Concierge?

I do recall that benefit! However, the last couple times I needed something from the market/gift shop they just comped me. ;)

IIRC, the 10% discount is not for sundry items or I vaguely remember that from years ago. Maybe it has to be a Marriott managed shop vs. 3rd party one?

yes, I found that language on the website - the rub of course is that there is no way that I am aware of to identify which hotels are or are not 'participating'.

I understand this not applying to non-hotel-operated giftshops of course, but for Example one of the hotels involved was an RC, and the item involved was ritz-branded, if only because there was no unbranded alternative offered :-)
