I am going to attempt to ask several questions. If they are in the wrong location please feel free to move.

Travels PDX to Ho Chi Minh last week and the routing was as follows.
PDX-SEA-NRT-SGN
SGN-NKG-NRT-SFO-PDX

1. SEA-NRT cancelled on Monday Aug 20 due to diaper stuck in toilet. They put us on Alaska air and we had to overnight in HNL. Should united compensate for our overnight in HNL?

2. Should I be able to get the milage credit for that leg? (Need it for status)

3. SGN-HNG 3 first class seats and there were 4 of us gave the seats to my two co-workers and the 3rd to my wife. They were then unable to separate our itinerary so they gave her seat away and her upgrade? Should they compensate her? She still made the flight. (The captain even tried to help the gate agent but no luck. Big thanks to him for his help it was appreciated)

4. We were in ANA from NRT-SFO left 2 hours late so we missed our connection in SFO and ended up there for an extra 6 plus hours. Anything ANA should do for us?

Any help or hints is much appreciated. Am I missing anything here or am I just letting my frustration get the best of me?

Thanks

What an trip -- sorry to hear of the troubles.

1) Yes, if a UA plane went MX, then UA's on the hook for incidentals (hotel, food, etc.) -- they *should* have given you a voucher at HNL.

2) Yes, write into M+ and ask for regional routing credit (their contact info is on the website.)

3) Not sure - as I understand it you and your wife were upgraded originally but after the IRROP only your wife had an F seat, which she subsequently lost. If that's the case then some compensation is due (IMHO) but I am not sure as to what it is.

4) Not sure - even though you were delayed due to NH you did make it back to PDX. I doubt there's anything now NH can do but when you were traveling through SFO during the delay you might have been able to request a meal voucher(s).

No, yes, no, and no.

Actually it's YES, yes, no and no. Of course UA should pay for his hotel on a forced overnight due to a MX. Why would you say no to the first one?

I agree w the last 3

1) Yes
2) Yes
3) not enough info, what was your original booking class?
4) depends on ANA/NH policies -- don't assume UA policies apply.

He said "upgrade" so it's NO

ANA flight was 2 hrs late - pax still got home same day so also NO!

Thanks everyone for the input. Again I am not trying to sound like "one of those guys" just wondering what my options are. I have sent an e-mail to milage + and will cross my fingers that I hear something back by year end! Thanks again.

I agree w the last 3

I took his first question to mean compensation beyond paying for the rerouted airfare and hotel accommodations.

If you are upgraded and subsequently downgraded policy says you get compensation.

it was not UA metal --- and no clear from OP how the upgrade was supported. (and posting is a bit fuzzy SGN-NKG vs SGN-HNG -- think latter is a typo)

+1
1. Yes (hotel, food, local transport if any @ HNL)
2. Yes, ask for Original Routing Credit (ORC)
3. Maybe (depends on carrier's policy - not a UA issue)
4. Maybe (Same as #3)

I'm betting is was SGN-HKG on UA metal. :-:

Neither NKG nor HNG make sense as a connection point on the OP's itinerary.
