I will be staying at the New World Radisson Blu and would like to do some shopping at a Carrefour department store. When I look on line for info about the locations of these stores, I have no idea what area they are in. Could someone please help?!
Thanks

You do know that Carrefour is not a department store, but some big supermarket? There is almost nothing I can think of that will be in such a store that a tourist/ short-term visitor to China would want.

According to google maps, the nearest one to nanjing road is ~5 km away on wuning road.

When my friends visited last year I brought them to the Walmart just for fun and to buy local snacks to try. Then again, I brought the same friends to the Dongjiao Wholesale market and we had a great time checking out the seemingly endless stalls of pork/beef/chicken purveyors, tanks after tanks of seafood etc. :p

I haven't been to a Carrefour here myself, but I assume it's like the Walmart too. Sometimes its just fun to check out a local supermarket. It's usually on the top of my list in a new city :D

Like TB said, it's a grocery store, but IME anyone who requests to visit a Carrefour knows exactly what they're getting into... and, is rarely disappointed after the fact. But, since we're talking about a huge time suck no matter which location you select, I advise you to give the "proximity" issue a backseat to the "quality of experience" issue. Insofar as Shanghai is concerned, Gubei reigns supreme. You might want to plan some other activities out there in order to justify the journey.

The reason for going to carrefours is to buy some silk duvets. I have bought some in the past at the "factory". It was suggested by a friend of mine to buy the duvets at Carrefour, similar quality at a much lover price. If anyone can offer some suggestions to an alternative, that would be great! Thanks.

Do you mean duvet cover, or silk filled 'comforters' (as americans say)? For the latter, I've seen them in the 'usual suspect' markets in beijing (e.g. pearl market). Not noticed them in carrefour (in beijing), but then again, only been once, and to buy food, so wasn't looking.

Go to the one on Wuning lu during the middle of the day. They'll have what you are looking for and it'll be about a 15 minute cab ride with no traffic with nobody in the store as it's the middle of a workday. Plus the Wuning lu location has a weird/cool al fresco painting concept on its exterior. That reason alone puts it above the Gubei location in my book.

I had the "weekend" idea stuck in my head because that's when I usually do my Carrefour missions (the experience is similar to Costco, but the samplers are young French people). But, I agree that if the objective is a quick "in and out" on a Tuesday afternoon, then I wouldn't make the schlep to Gubei.
