Hi all, was just wondering what car rental company policies are about landing up late for the pick up, no a day or days late, just maybe a few hours late.
I'm asking this as I have a couple of bookings at MCO with Alamo and Sixt and haven't booked my flght tickets as yet as my MCO holiday is still too far out.
I've chosen a 1400 hours pick up time, but say I land up between 1800 hours to 2200 hours, will the car companies still honour my rental.
P.S. None of the bookings are pre paid, they both have to be paid for at the counter while picking up the car.

With Enterprise, I frequently find myself an hour or so late, and have on very rare occasions been several hours late.

At an hour late, they either don't notice, don't care, or it's just assumed that stuff happens with flights.

At four hours, they whined a little bit and ask about what happened to my flight, but I still got my car at the original rate.

I'm not sure that I would deliberately push it out much further than that, though. Save that for the true flight nightmares.

Enterprise considers a reservation not honored within two hours of scheduled pick-up to be a no-show. If they have cars available, they will usually still honor it; if they are oversold, expect to be turned away.

Dollar Thrifty has a similar policy but at corporate airport locations considers anything within six hours of scheduled pick-up to be on-time. After six hours, your reservation may not be honored. (Dollar Thrifty off-airport corporate locations can no-show after two hours.) Note that these rules vary for franchises but should be spelled out in the terms and conditions on Dollar.com and Thrifty.com during the reservation process.

Most other companies don't have a defined no-show policy. For Avis, for example, anything within 24 hours of scheduled pick-up is guaranteed to be honored. After 24 hours, you'll be helped to the best of their ability, but you may have to wait a bit for an available car to be located. With other companies, I'd assume that your reservation will be guaranteed at least until the end of the night.

This can vary, of course, and so it's best to review the terms and conditions to see if a no-show policy is specified. I took a look at Alamo and SIXT at MCO and was not able to find anything mentioned, so my assumption would be that you wouldn't have to worry if you're a few hours late. It may, however, be worth calling to verify this once you do get your flights scheduled. Alamo can be reached at 1-407-825-1800, and SIXT can be called at 1-888-941-7498.

Certain times of year in MCO can be very heavy and they may run short of cars late in the day.

If you are going to be late, it would be best to call the office and tell them your "flight is leaving late" so they will try to hold your car.

You should also keep looking at rental rates, as they may get lower between now and your trip. I've often saved hundreds of dollars doing this, and then you just assign the proper time for pickup since you know you flight times.
