Mileage Run Discussion - MR help needed from ORD on AA

For a variety of reasons, I am shy of the miles needed to qualify for ExPlat/Plat for the first time in years. Excluding planned business travel, I need 39K miles before the end of the year.

I am a relative newbie to MRs, having only having done one (ORD-DFW-SFO-ORD) ever. I understand the mechanics, but would really appreciate advice from the experts.

I would need to do this on weekends (depart Friday is ok), and preference would be long-haul (e.g., ORD-NRT) over multiple domestic hops, but I may be naive on that point. Open to anything

try ord-sfo-ord w/ nested sfo-fll/mia/jfk/iad rts, or go east to start..........

look at the ord thread a bit down from this...

edit to add....what is the Max $ you will spend for 39k eqm?

another thought....

this is an all or none situation imho.....that is, no real benefit in doing part of it, so i would try to book all trips at the same time.....

if a 2x promo comes up, hopfully it will be soon....

I know it does not helps but you just missed ORD-MAA/HYD-ORD on EY for USD 608 a.i. earling AA miles by couple of hours.

i priced ord-bos-sfo-bos-ord...had conx in dfw & jfk for w/e 9/29.....was ~ 6.5 c/eqm....used multi city....

you can go the other way also.....

ord-sfo-bos-lax-bos-ord was $700 fri pm-sun....over 12.5k....
3 of these could do it....all dom so an exp might ride in front....same w/e...

Okay, some great suggestions. I'm seriously considering taking a vacation and knocking it all out with this run: ORD-LAX-MIA-EZE-MIA-CDG-JFK-HND-LAX-HNL-LAX-ORD. It looks crazy, but I think with the right layovers this would be epic

i don't know on optimal, but you could price the ord-jfk & jfk-ord segs using multi city....no prob w/the open jaws...

Question on timing. Wouldnt it make sense to do this in January and earn PLAT which would be good through 2014? My status from 2011 carries until end of Feb of next year,right?

you need 39k for plt this year?....or exp?....if for exp, you must have already requaled for plt....or is this some kind of challenge?....confused from the op....

It may - you are currently Platinum or EggSplat, it will remain so through 28 Feb 2013. And you will likely be offered the option to buy current status for another year.
