India-based Airlines - 9W seems desperate to get new frequent fliers

They're sending out a lot of marketing mail (as far as I can see, unsolicited) titled "Rs.500 Off on tickets + 2000 Bonus JPMiles. Enrol now with JetPrivilege!"

Starts off with "This is a marketing initiative. If you are an existing JetPrivilege member, please write to jpnewsletter@jetairways.com"

So far I've received it on an address I use to read network operations mailing lists, and another that I use to read linux mailing lists.

Yes, they seem quite desperate. Also I find it interesting that even though their flights are no longer going full, they keep raising fares and "other charges".

But then, this seems consistent with the way Economics applies to India. For example, in Mumbai there are 500,000 empty flats (and the number is going up all the time). But they keep claiming that prices are going up. Forget the fact that no one is buying (no one with hard-earned money can afford to buy), the prices keep going up anyway!

Ha. just received a third email of this type on yet another account that I have. I only gave one account of mine (a hotmail account) to Jet and I dont get this marketing email there for which I must thank god for small mercies I guess.

If they keep spamming on this scale they are going to end up suddenly finding even their regular mail like frequent flyer statements, e-tickets etc landing up in various ISP spam folders.

i don't think its desperate....9w have a habbit of sending out useless emails....half of them don't make any sense....

with the demise of kingfisher they felt raising fares would work for them....at the end of the day they are the only full service airline left along with ai....both have been raising fares....

not quite sure what you are basing the fact on that they are no longer going full....i take over a hundred 9w flights a year & the majority are full....a number of times i have been waitlisted & got the confirmation at the airport....

Seems like random shots in the dark - a very Jet-esque "strategy" that they seem to apply to everything.

Yah. They do love their "now, earn JetPoints at coffeeshop and tailor shop" emails. But they never seem to send out mailers that could actually generate any real revenue.

to be fair to them, it gives them revenue. these miles are not being generated in thin air, each of these tailors and coffee shops and apparel merchandisers are basically using the jet program as their mode of rewarding their customers and they pay for the miles they get credited to the customer's accounts.

so the more number of shoppers claiming them, more the revenue for 9w.

Also, they are Konnect-ing too much these days, so almost 80% of their flights are not "full-service" any longer!

I got this spam to an email ID I used to book a ticket ages ago (sept 2009?) which I credited to M&M. ;)

del-bom is definitely full....i'm flying this route 3-4 times a month....del-maa i only do 6-7 times a year but that seems to be full as well....

but recently, my flights to ixc, ccu, vns & blr have also been full....

i agree....there are just too many konnect flights....

True, but that revenue via an assortment of third parties is minuscule compared to real revenue from their actual business of flying people from A to B.

And I'm not talking about something that involved spending money like plastering Marine Drive with illuminated Hello Tomorrow ads or splurging on entire pages of newspapers and magazines like Lufthansa or Air France.

I've never even seen a simple email (which basically costs nothing to send) that tells us:
* Now, Double Dilly to Singapore
* Now, Bombay to Sharjah
* Now, Jet2Dubai 4 times Daily
* Now, no more Bahrain... Actually, yes Bahrain.... Then again, maybe not ;)

(Okay, I was poking fun with that last one)

But instead of advertising new destinations or increased frequencies, they choose to bombard us with crap about Barista and Rosenthal (like anyone's going to switch to Jet only because Jet will serve their diminishing meals on second-grade crockery).

I need to get the wife signed up to JP for flights to be taken in a couple months - might use this then. How do you sign up? Is there a promo code? Any T&Cs?

i get your point, but try getting mine. if JP has to be a separate profit centre, the guy who heads JP is trying to earn revenue. never mind that their new upgraded cRM systems should be working on targetting customers according to their various activities etc. the double dilly and all that, can wait for the monthly or annual newsletter or a line in their annual report which only analysts read

Hee hee hee!

Well, let me put it this way:

Promoting coffee shops is not essential, and it should be in addition to promoting flights. Not instead of.

That would serve them well.

Perhaps it comes down to JP making the noise (empty vessels and all that) and not Jet Airways. Similar end result though.

+1. a case of working in silos, to use corporate jargon ;) but i suspect we may be on the same page now :D

if you want the 2000 free jp miles, you can also go to facebook.com/jetairways and pick up a link from there for 2000 free jp miles.

if you want the 500 rs. discount codes going out to random members, i suspect you must wait to get one of your own ;)

They are not only desperate to gain new ones - they are ensuring they are losing their old ones too!

I just called to check on a booking I had made and found out the JetDimwits had cancelled it!!

What a class act...

Absolute hopeless characters over there at their call center!!! :td:

(now checking Sabre - they probably combined 2 flights, which is the reason why...idi*ts, idi*ts!)
