Flying CLT-STL on 8/20 on a CR9, got the upgrade at Silver window. Show up to gate and GA requests volunteers so I do the VDB dance and get to keep my upgrade on the next flight (on a 319 no less). Anyways, 2 days later when the flight posts to my account, I check and it shows the fare class for my CLT-STL flight as "F" as opposed to "O". But, there's no COS bonus, only my Silver RDM bonus.

AFAIK, "F" fare bucket gets 150% PQMs regardless of what put me there, correct? Or has US IT finally evolved enough to distinguished purchased "F" from VDB "F"? (I seriously doubt it.)

Shouldn't I be getting my COS bonus?

I think you should feel lucky and happy if you get the COS bonus but since you didn't purchase a ticket from the "F" fare bucket, that you don't deserve it.

COS is based on what you paid for, not what you actually flew.

This happens frequently on Delta. VDB or IRROPS results in your new flights being ticketed in Y. While you don't get the COS bonus Y/B fares earn (in fact your SkyMiles statement lists both fare buckets, something along the lines of "Ticketed: H / Flown: Y") you do get all other benefits of being in the Y bucket. I had a DL flight last year (no status there) and took VDB, my new boarding passes included SkyPriority, and I was able to move to a preferred seat at the kiosk (this was before EC was available on domestic routes). If you're Medallion, you also get an instant upgrade to F if a seat is open, or jump to the front of the UG standby list if there isn't.

In a word, no. OP flew in F, but paid some steerage rate. He gets miles based on what he paid. Even US can figure that out.

I recently did a move up and somehow my O segments became F segments. I got the COS bonus

I'm sorry if I came across as saying that I thought I "deserved" my COS; I could have worded the OP better. I was merely curious about the COS bonus b/c it has been well documented on here how other airlines, namely UA + DL, do give COS bonuses for VDBs rebooked into a higher fare bucket.

Why not call the airline and ask? Couldn't hurt.

Because knowing US IT, in the effort to find out the answer, my next 2 reservations will be cancelled lol.

::UPDATE::

I ended up getting the COS bonus; posted later that night on the 31st. Weird timing, but w/e.
