Mom has a few miles from a flight to India and I have tried to use them for an India to Amm/CAI flight. I have tried a few dates in Oct but nothing seems to be available. Usually most middle east airlines have better availability on these intra middle east flights. The agent offered to put a reservation on waitlist which I did. Do flights become available near departure?

I wouldn't count on their website or the Oasis Club site for miles redemption. I've seen it and it had to be done through their office and some paper work was involved as well. Aside from that, they're cutting down on destinations and flights schedules due to the awful technical problems they've been having with their aging fleet.

Thanks what do you mean by paperwork?

Just to give an update on the award booking procedure. Over the phone I was able to put some flights on waitlist. Flights to India seemed difficult to clear. If there is no response, you can ask the agent to put a reminder or second request.

Once it gets confirmed I think I was given 7 days to send in an authorization letter and passport copies. After it was validated, I contacted the KU in the US and got it ticketed. Had to mail in a physical check. They would not take a credit card over the phone. Fees for CAI-KWI-COK came to approx $125 which included YQ of some 50-70.

To date this seems to have been my toughest redemption procedure. While many airlines are allowing partner awards to be booked online, KU still cannot allow it's own flights to be booked online.

I think in the middle east one has to pay for incoming calls even on landlines. I think this is why there were times when I just could not get through to them. They would not put me on hold as it means more charges so there would be an error message. Once an agent even reminded me that she spent 15 minutes on me and that they are required to spend only 5-10 minutes per person.

Update: redemption can be made via contacting Oasis Club, where the reservation can be made and ticket issuance can be made from any local KU ticketing office.

True. However one should call them. They are slow to respond to email and do not put flights on waitlist.

I wanted to try it since I have around 50 grand of miles at their side, unfortunately, I don't plan on taking them further than regional flights.
