I will be flying from Athens, Greece to Dublin, Ireland by way of Frankfurt on Lufthansa. Here's the weird part:

From Athens - Frankfurt = flight LH 1283
From Frankfurt - Dublin = flight LH 982

Why two different flights numbers on same reservation?

Also, since Greece and Ireland are in the European Union, with the change of flight numbers, will I need to go through the horrendously long and unorganized security line at Frankfurt? I assume that my luggage will be checked through to Dublin, so I won't have to go through customs or immigration at Frankfurt, right?

Am I making any sense here? I'm freaking out now.

No need to freak out. 2 different flight numbers because 2 different planes. Your luggage will go through to dublin unless you request otherwise.

In Frankfurt you may or may not have to go through security, it really depends where your first flight lands and where your second departs from, although logically you would be correct in assuming that there should not be a second security check.

security checks at frankfurt are a pain, but with a good book very survivable :D

This is what happens when you don't have a direct/non-stop flight. Two different planes with two different numbers :-).

But the more relevant question is, how much time do you have between arriving and departing again in Frankfurt?

As others have noted, no need to freak out.
Take a look at this thread http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/miles-more-lufthansa-austrian-swiss-other-partners/982019-beginners-guide-connecting-fra-fra-connection-thread.html
The first post has lots of useful information in it.

70 minutes according to lufthansa.com. Much better than 45 minutes that the OP might have had when the ticket was first booked.

Also, since Greece and Ireland are in the European Union, with the change of flight numbers, will I need to go through the horrendously long and unorganized security line at Frankfurt? Both Greece and Ireland are in the EU, but Greece and Germany are in Schengen and Ireland is not, so you will go through exit passport control in Frankfurt. You should not need to clear security but because of the layout of Frankfurt Airport you may have to go through transfer security. Whichever way you should be fine if you just follow the signs.

No need to go through customs in Frankfurt and your luggage can be checked through to Dublin.

Right - I only have 1 hr and 10 mins of layover. Too darn short?

[redacted] I booked it a few months ago and just noticed the short time layover in Frankfurt. I was in Frankfurt not too long ago and was shocked to see the long lines at security.
