Earn a one-way reward flight when you purchase a one-way flight

Dear dk240t,

As a highly-valued Member, we've created a special offer that will help you earn a one-way reward flight when you purchase a one-way flight! Yes, you've read that right. From now through September 30, 2012, you can earn up to two one-way reward flights or one roundtrip reward flight when you book and complete your travel between now and September 30, 2012!

Here's how it works: purchase and travel on a qualifying flight, and we'll give you seven bonus credits in addition to the standard credit you normally earn, for a total of eight credits for Coach travel

----------------------------------------

Check your spam filters. Anyone else get this one? Thinking I might have to do a Saturday round trip ATL-CLT-ATL for $140 to get 16 credits.

I got this. Mrs. Cooger72 and my brother did not get it. Neither are elite though.

I'm thinking I could do a quick MEMATLMEM for the credits and catch a braves game plus be that much closer to reupping elite one last time. Sadly the sale that's on isn't great, but for a BOGO, it might have to be good enough.

Definitely a plan.

Not booking anything yet...but if I see a real sale, with ATL-xxx one ways dropping down to ~$50 again like it has been (to CLT, RDU, some FL destinations) I'll probably book an up and back. As it is, something may come up anyways and I won't need to make a special trip.

I was thinking the same thing... last night my out and back woulda been $185 and I had a decent reason for it, but now it's jumped to $300 for the one I was eyeing, so it becomes much less opportune. Still, the wife will be happier with me.

I registered for this deal. I am in a grey area here. Earlier in the same day, I booked one round trip flight. Would those two flights be eligible for this promo? In the past, it has been hit and miss. one time, without any prompting from me, they seemed to include bonus credits for flights booked and traveled in the eligible timeframe even if they were booked before the registration.

By the T&C, you shouldn't get any bonus. By their IT's ability/decision to discriminate against that flight, who knows.

If you booked it in the past 24 hours and the price hasn't changed, you should be able to cancel it for a refund and rebook, thanks to the US Government.

If I get targeted with this - I'm going. I will leave tonight.

How exactly do you find out once you have logged into your AirTran account that you are targeted for this offer?

Targeted promotions are sent via email, with details for registering.

The targeted promotions typically require you log-in and then click on something to register...so if you didn't see it in your email, you might find it by logging in, if you were targeted for it.

Sales suck right now. Best is $90 each way to JAX. Could go out and back to see my Texans @ Jaguars I guess.

I took advantage of this. I booked one roundtrip to PBI from ATL just hours before I registered for the promo. So that didn't count.
I booked and took another set of one way flights to and from the same place a couple of weeks later . But two weeks later for the first of the flights and no bonus yet. I even checked with A+ Rewards customer service before booking those flights.

I sent A+ Rewards an email on the submit missing credits link. Let's see what happens.

Not that it's any help now, but you have a 24-hour grace period to cancel your itinerary. You could have done that and then repurchased after registering for the promo. @:-)

In my case, it would have been too much work to do so because I book on Concur, an american express based travel agency is incorporated into it. THey are really terrible at using specific airline quirks at canceling flights. They have all kinds of stupid processing fees. I didn't lose any sweat over it as I was planning another trip anyway. And the limit for the promo was two one way trips.

The normal policy is that it can take up to 8 weeks, following the end of the promotion period, for you to receive the bonus. The last time I received credits from a similar type of promotion, though, my account was credited shortly after the end of the promotion; I did not have to wait 8 weeks after the promotion period ended.

I'm pretty sure the promo said, "When you book on airtran.com". Not sure you'll get the bonus.

i checked with Airtran before booking it and asked her if I needed to do directly on the site as the terms mentioned. The customer rep said no problem booking via company travel site. AMEX charges the company , not airtran for these kind of sites as it is not expedia type site. I called again yesterday and they said my reservation conforms to the bonus and it will take anwhere from now to another month before the credits show up.

Smart to do your homework there and make sure.

I also booked a flight with this promotion through Concur. In the past, I did call to ask if flights booked this way would still be eligible and was told yes, no problem. My husband called before we took a flight for this promotion and was again told that yes, it was eligible.

Today he called to find out when we could expect to see the points and the attendant said, "Oh, you booked through a corporate site, I'm not sure you'll get them." So he reminded her that he called before we booked the flight and was told it would be eligible. Then she said something vague like, "Oh, then it's probably fine."

It's not going to be probably fine if we don't get our points after calling to check and having it verified.

melissa, let's reconvene here in a 3 weeks or so. if we don't see credit, let's coordinate our calls and share notes here. I remember getting bonus for concur booked travel in the past. If the customer rep would have told me concur wouldnt work for the promo, I would have denitely told my HR person that I would book on airtran and attach the receipt to concur separately during the reporting process.

Not cool at all if they mess this up.

These do sometimes take time. Have we heard from anyone that they got the bonus at all yet?

I have gotten bonuses previously booking from corporate travel sites before, for what it is worth.

Good deal, Saneman. I, too, could have booked directly online, but the company prefers to go through Concur as well. I'd like to think that since I got them on a past promotion booking this way and both you and my husband were told it was OK for this one, we should be fine.
I don't expect any action for several weeks, anyway.

Hi, Saneman - sorry to hear you're not 100% pleased with Concur's services. We would love to hear your feedback. Please email connected@concur.com and let us know how we can help!

Well first of all, there were a couple of times, Airtran.com had fares for 100 bucks and concur was quoting nearly twice.

There was one reservation where I was booked in a qualifying fare class on airtran, and when I wanted to change the reservation to an earlier flight for the same day which was cheaper and available(my plans changed and I wanted to leave earlier), concur did not recognize my elite benefits which entitled me to the free change for that fare level. Instead, when I called AMEX travel affiliated with your site, I was told that they were not aware of it and couldn't guarantee me anything and that I would be charged the regular change fee. THen I called airtran and they said they could not touch reservations made on concur and so even though I was entitled to the free change, they could not do anything because it was booked on concur and it is upto concur to coordinate the change without a fee and Airtran would then recognize it and not charge since my FF number is passed along in the reservation.

So all concur had to do was coordinate with Airtran and at least take the trouble to validate my elite benefits since Airtran was fine with not charging me a fee.

Since concur/amex couldnt guarantee me anything, I dropped the idea.

Seems like neither TA simply wanted to call in to the TA desk and make the change with no fee based on your Elite status and fare class booked. They certainly could have.

In your case you may have been better off walking up to the ticket counter early.... worst case you flew standby earlier w/higher priority. Best case they refared you without fee and credited the difference to your A+ account. Somewhere in the middle is a refund of the difference to the TA... possibly driving any Corp TA accounting crazy.

Still no credit. Obviously, I will have to wait a couple more weeks before i make enquiries. But I do have a question about why it should even take this long? What do they do for a month? Why can't htye make such promos immediate instead of waiting for a month?

They can. They choose not to. It doesn't seem that uncommon to have to wait for bonuses of this type on airlines, credit card promos, etc.

Hi Saneman - we've been out of the country and just got back tonight and checked our accounts and no credits yet for us, either. We'll give it until Nov. 1 before inquiring.

I made a missing credits request on this issue last week. No email response yet. Getting impatient here. That's 14 credits. I have gotten my double bonus on subsequent trips made. So what's the freaking holdup, I dont know. I will be very mad if they stick to the airtran.com rule after I checked with them before booking.

I'd guess such promos get swept monthly. This is marketing.

Picture for a moment reservations as a huge *very* live database. One that one doesn't want to mess with for obvious reasons.

Picture the promotions as a very little limited database. Run a sweep of the little one against the big one and marketing gets the results with all sorts of valuable usage data. And of course that data and it's costs go to marketing monthly. Any business I've ever dealt with has monthly reporting.

Does that paint a reasonable business needs picture?

OTOH If they simply applied the bonus to the pnr and the Customer changed routes or dates that were ineligible? It would be much harder to sort that out. Make any sense?

Thanks. Actually, I just called and the agent said it would take eight weeks from the time of travel, which was Sept. 15, so...soon. She checked my account and said everything looked perfect, so it appears the Concur booking is not a problem (as I was originally told, but you never know!).
