Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan - Will canceling my BofA C.C. affect my unused Comp. Coupon?

I have an unused companion coupon that is good until July 2013. My card is up for renewal and I would like to cancel. Does that make the coupon void?

Once the coupon is issued I think its valid no matter what.

I received a companion code in July and just cancelled my card; the companion code is still showing on my page of discount codes, so I assume it will stay there until I use it.

I hate calling BofA on the phone, so I sent a secure message asking to cancel the card. The reply said they wanted me to call or they would not cancel the card while it had a balance (which was just my usual monthly charges, since I pay the card off every month). After I paid the balance, except for the $75 fee, I wrote again and then they reversed the fee and cancelled the card.

My certificate from my cancelled card is still listed with my other discount codes. Who knows why.

Was your account new? I'd had mine for several years before I cancelled it.

Was the annual fee paid on the card?

I canceled my card, annual fee never paid, and the coupon is still there.

Same with me - never paid the fee, and I was able to use the coupon. And the bonus miles for signing up for the card stayed in.

I'd had the card for many many years. However, I don't know when the anniversary period was so it is possible that the certificate deposited, I had B of A switch the card to a cash back card to avoid the annual fee and keep the credit, then the annual fee was due so they took back the certificate. That's quite possible but I just don't know for sure. Good and logical thought!
