Hilton HHonors - Hilton vs Marriot - I have read, need opinions!

Hey guys, I appreciate your help, I have read the threads and still would like some first hand opinions.

I am platinum with both Hilton and Marriot and for the first time have the option of choosing which hotel I want to stay at as I travel 4 days a week for the next 6 months. I have very few points with Marriot and ~250k points with Hilton.

I want to get the best bang for my buck from a rewards perspective, which one do I chose? I must pay with my corporate card (for now), and both properties are the same distance away and equally as nice... I am having trouble decrypting the various valuations of the hilton peso and the marriot dollar...

Some say that all in all, each hotel's reward points are worth the same, so then it would just come down to which property I want - do any agree with this?

Thank you so much!!!!!

my rule of thumb is to go with the one with a better promotion.

No they are not. Generally, it takes fewer Marriott points for award stays at the same class of property than HH points. This is at the standard award level. However, HH is now pushing "premium" awards at some properties for even higher point amounts. Marriott has no additional level of gouging like that. This is somewhat offset by HH's more generous double dipping, promotions (sometimes) and higher credit card bonuses.

Since you will not be using either of the affinity credit cards, that significantly reduces your points earning in either program and would tip the scales to Marriott.

It seems like you are debating two particular properties and not the two programs in general. In that case, negotiate with both properties (and let them know you have options) to see what both will give you. For such a long stay both properties will give you above and beyond your status level and I'm sure you can negotiate extra points as well.

Despite other experience, I have never had a problem to get a standard room with Hilton. True, if you want to go to Bora Bora on a specific date it might be difficult but with enough flexibility and with almost all destinations there is no real problem redeeming points according to the standard levels.

Depends on where you want to spend the points.
Hilton has great Hawaii and French Polynesia locations.
Also double dip on airline miles
