Germany - MUC - SZG - VIE in September?
Considering Germany and Austria (as far up as Bad Gastein) in mid- to late-September (2013). Plan: Fly into MUC. Train to SZG. Train to Bad Gastein. Train back to SZG. Train to VIE. Fly home from VIE.
Any issues or considerations at that time of year?

The Salzburg - Bad Gastein journey especially is beautiful. Sit on the left side of the train (facing forwards) to get the best views as the train climbs from Bad Hofgastein to Bad Gastein, and you will see the elegant buildings of the town in front of you hugging the side of the mountain, as you approach the station.

Good to know. Thank you.
I was wondering what the weather would be like in September in the mountains. (I spent three summers in the area, but never an autumn.) And TSMRSRNE is crazy for The Sound of Music; how's the tour in fall? What would Mirabell Gardens be like then?
SZG and VIE are in Austria
There is no Train von SZG to Salzburg HBF you can take the Bus or a Cab.
From Vienna to VIE you need a Aditional Ticket from "Schwechat" to "Flughafen Wien" for 2€.

The OP is travelling initially from Germany to Austria: Munich - Salzburg (and SZG the city, not the airport!)
So, anyway, does anybody have any experience with the mountains in September? And any opinions of the Sound of Music tour(s)?
Sorry what is an "Sound of Music tour"?

You are very rude and incorrect. The OP is travelling initially from Germany to Austria: Munich - Salzburg (and SZG the city, not the airport!)
who's rude? i didn't post yet.
when last passing through vie, there were no gate numbers in the hall ways, and no directions to the gates. the staff(?) also did not know where our gate was located. was a small gate, vie-vce flight. for that matter, not much staff around. only concessions down long halls. that airport schedules 30min flight transfers, and they are tight.
