United MileagePlus (Consolidated) - Flying outbound but not return - two people on same PNR

My partner and I are flying EWR-MIA-TPA-EWR, but I will actually be taking a different flight from TPA, leaving him to go TPA-EWR alone (this was a last minute change and there's 0 value in me actually changing the ticket to delete my TPA-EWR segment).

I understand that if we get CPU'ed based on my status and I'm a no-show, he could very well end up downgraded to the back of the plane. What I want to make sure is that there isn't a chance that they'll deny him boarding altogether - I don't believe that they would, but I'll already be on a plane headed elsewhere so I won't be able to deal with drama should there be any.

Thanks for any insight...

Check in all the way through and just skip the last segment. The GA will realize that you are not there only after everyone has boarded and they are ready to close the flight and by that time noone will bother to check the upgrade status of your partner, let alone deny them boarding. And, btw, there is no ground for denying the boarding just because the other person on the same PNR hasn't shown up for the flight.

Thanks; all in line with what I expected. I normally would just check in and no-show but I'd hate for them to hold it looking for me.
