Club Carlson - Redeeming points for Park Inn airport location, good deal?

I'm new to earning/using Club Carlson points. I have two options for a quick one night stay at the Milan Airport, use my SPG points for a Sheraton hotel or use CC points for a Park Inn. But I don't know how to value the CC points, offer is for 44,000 points, or 10,000 points plus $76, or $101 if I paid cash. Can't tell if using the points is a good value, $100 is a pretty cheap rate.

Any advice appreciated. I should add that I'm not likely to earn many CC points since SPG is my main brand.

I think that is tricky. In my neck of the woods I redeem 28,000 CC points for a ~ $125 room. I feel like 44k for $101 value is a waste. I wouldn't go that route. I think you can find rooms in Europe that are $300-$400 for that many points!

$76 & 10,000= $2.5/1,000. I value my Carlson points at around $4.5/1,000.

I think it comes down to really how many points you have, what you normally would use them for, etc. I however think $76/10,000 might be the happy medium ...

I also have a lot of SPG points and have found that the Carlson C&P rates are not a good value relative to SPG. If it were me I'd use my Carlson points at some Cat 1 & 2 properties like the ones near Disney in Orlando, or those in the Greater LA area. Those are 9k or 15k a night vs 44k.

Well, point for point, SPG doesn't match up with CC.
Both chains have good values on more modest properties, often in airport locations.

In my head, I value 1 SPG point = 7 CC points = about $0.02.

Prime CC property: 50,000 points. Prime SPG property: 12,000 points.
Typical CC lower-tier property: 28,000 to 44,000 points. Typical SPG lower-tier property: 4,000 to 7,000.
For revenue stays, CC pays 20 points per dollar of spend, vs 2+ per dollar with SPG.

As for Orlando, CC's Orlando 9k is an anomaly... and reportedly a really good value. But yes, those 15k's are a good value, but they only exist in some markets. If you can find a few 15,000 point properties where you feel you would spend those points, those are the best value. Otherwise, you should feel comfortable spending the 44,000 points here.

Sorry, I meant the C&P on CC wasn't as good because the cash portion is high relative to the best available rate when you use C&P. No one matches SPG for point value, but they give you a pretty good discount on the rate with C&P and I haven't found that to be the case on CC, where you might get a $20 discount using points.
