We arrive at Madrid at T4s, and then leave to Portugal at T1.

I assume we clear customs, then get on a bus to T1, yes?

If out flight is on time, we have some time to kill. Is one area better to kill a few hours?

How long should it all take with carry-ons only? If we are running late, any tips?

You probably have two separate tickets, correct? If so, you will collect your bags in T4, take the bus to T1, check in, re-check bags, go through security and fly to Portugal.

Who are you flying in on and who are you flying out on? To/from where? How much time do you have between the two flights?

Yes, we are supposed to arrive on AA at T4 at 10am. I see that the flight is very often late
so I booked our next flight later. We'll have no checked bags on the AA flight.

2pm EasyJet, check in by 1pm, in terminal 1.
Need to check a bag for this one.
I hope that is enough time.

You will be fine. Probably time will not be enough to go into town, but with this schedule you should comfortably cover even an hour delay, and it's exactly as you wrote concerning the transfer.

So if we have some time to kill, is t4 better than t1 for time killing?

Landside, they're about the same. T1 has free wifi downstairs next to arrivals (provided by some coffee shop) whereas the rest of the airport only has pay wifi. Airside, T1 is nothing too special either, but should offer more shopping opportunities than T4 landside. T123 are all connected together.

Thanks very much.
