Hey guys,
A bit of a newbie. I live in Copenhagen, Denmark and would like to learn about different strategies to earn miles.
Which Credit Card with Miles & More do you recommend for someone who has a lot of everyday expenses but not too many flights and travel expenses?
Do they work as regular Mastercard where you pay the initial fee and then only pay additional fees if you don't have the money to cover your expenses on the 1st of the month..
Is it possible to attain this card in Denmark... Any other newbie must-do's are GREATLY appreciated to earn miles!
Thanks
Frankly, if you leave in Copenhagen, and do not fly a lot on LH, I would recommend that you get yourself a SAS Eurobonus credit card. In my opinion you get much more value for money. SAS redemptions out of Copenhagen are often cheaper in points than MM and you pay much lower charges for redemption on tickets than with LH.
Since you do not fly a lot, a MasterCard will probably be cheaper than Diners. In my opinion Diners is a much better offer, but unfortunately it is accepted in rather few places that are not part of travel industry.
Also keep in mind that most grocery stores in Copenhagen will take 0.75% fee if you pay with a MasterCard (including the Eurobonus Card). I believe that this fee essentially anihilates the points you receive -- it costs you more or less the same to get the miles, as what they are worth. The situation changes a lot if you buy a lot of expensive goods, travels, hotels, etc. Many of these do not incurr any extra fee for using a credit card.
Also, if you go the route of geting a MM credit card using an address outside Denmark, keep in mind that international cards incurr even higher fees than the one issued by Danish banks. AFAIR MM does not offer a Danish issued card, but I have not followed this closely recently.
Welcome to FT and the M&M forum DenmarkMM!
I am not aware of a Danish M&M Credit Card as well. You get certainly get a German CC but as Denmark is not part of the Euro Zone it will be fairly expensive to use it. As pointed out by wazow, there may be better alternatives out there.
